Boat attacked by Shark three mile near Scarborough

Was fishing on Tuesday night in my Voyager Ghia about 6.45 pm. Had just caught some nice tailor and was hoping for a pinky. Mate hooked a skippy and as he pulled the skippy on board we heard this awfull crunching fibreglass sound. My wife and mate both looked at me and we all said WTF was that? I didnt let on but i knew the sound of crunching fibreglass and had a nervous look over the side to see if i could see anything. we pulled the anchor about then and headed back to Hillarys in the dark.

Next morning i pulled the sharks tooth from the bottom of the boat and could clearly see the outline of the bite mark from what i think may have been a big Mako or large Whaller. The bite mark measued 400 ml wide. Pretty scarry wife has said no more night fishing for her. Glad we were in a solid boat with lots of freeboard.

Holy shit . That's one way to end a night fishing quick. Luckily it wasn't more serious. Still going to need patching . Put the tooth on the boats key ring as a reminder or momento

Bugger that, it's bad enough when you can see the damn things, a real concern that one has now attacked a boat, not good.

Bit freaky especially at night

but do you think the shark was chasing the skippy and accidentally grabbed the boat as your mate lifted the skippy out of the water? rather than an actaul attack on the boat itself

Accident or Deliberate?

Fri, 2020-10-09 11:35

One of my mates who is a top fisherman pointed out that sharks close there eyes when the attack so mabe he just missed the skippy and got a mouthfull of my boat? One powerfull beast to do that damage to the hull. Could haver been a smallsih great white? Might see if i can get fisheries or the museum to identify the tooth.

I am working on the repairs myself. Does anyone have any ideas on what type of shark it may have been looking at the tooth? I have spoken to Fremantle Water police who didnt seem that interested. Have also spoken to and emailed photos to the fisheries. depatment.
