Boat feels bogged down before getting on plane

Hey guys as title suggests, my boat feels "bogged down" in the water from about the 4-8knot range while just cruising.

In this speed range the ass end drops and the nose picks up like it wants to take off on the plane, motor almost sounds like it's over revving for the speed the boat is actually going, and the wake coming off the back is considerably larger than all the other boats around me whilst traveling through the marina. Once on the plane everything seems sweet.

Boat is a 5.2m side console ali with a 115hp suzi on the back. The suzi is the max rated hp for this hull. I dont think forward ballast is the answer as it rides relatively flat once on the plane.

Could a hydrofoil, prop change, or trim tabs be the answer?

Sounds pretty normal, have you tried trimming down a bit more, most boats ride ass heavy until up on the plane and any boat on the plane isn't doing less than 8 knots.

Lifting strakes generally don't take effect until around 10 knots, pretty normal for your stern to bog down.

I have similar problems with my 4.2 but have held off on doing anything because it goes so much better when out of the marina. Handles great with no worries about speed.

I asked the same question on a Facebook page of a community of boat owners who own similar styles of side and centre consoles, it's a 100% recommendation of a hydrofoil

The hydrofoil will lift the transom  so as long as you can run more nose up trim in a following sea without venting the prop you should be alright because you will need a bit more nose up trim with the hydrofoil than you need without it.

8 knots is always a fairly awkward speed. Your hull is transitioning from displacement to planing and isn't comfortable in the middle.

Yeah but even 4-8knots I have the same problem as at 8knots. So even trolling i start worrying about the strain the motor sounds like it is under

Will fix your blues Beau . Added one to my centre console and it made a world of difference!  . You won't be dissatisfied.

Sounds like your boat and motor are rooted Bobo.

Your best bet is to buy a bigger boat
