Boat fuel
Submitted by collin g wood on Tue, 2011-08-02 08:26
Hi, due to work commitments, oversea holidays and shitty weather I have been unable to use my boat for about 3 months,I'm hoping to get out on Thursday Arvo for a snapper sesh, with the fuel sitting there for that long is. There anything I should do before using it? Have about 80L in a 120L tank, does it go stagnant or will it be ok?

Should be good as mate, have to watch fuel in plastic tanks though, the only thing you need to watch maybe is condensation, alttle bit of metho should clear that up or if you have a water trap type water filter you can pour it off.

If my fuel is getting old, as my tinnie would be now, I just top it up with premium, to boost the octane a bit.

is usually about the time it takes before fuel starts to lose it's octane strength but if kept cool during storage this can be a bit longer.

Only problem might be if it was premix 2 stroke
Not that I know many onboards with premix 2 stroke, but if it was then you'd probably get separation of oil/petrol mixture, that might be a pain

Only thing I would watch is condensation in the tank, litre of metho and top it up.
Clear fuel filters are also the way to go so you can drain off any water. The age of the fuel wont be a problem though.
Tight lines to all :)

Should be ok
But either metho or Quicksilver has a product called DriFuel (now called Quickare no1) which takes out the water, maximizes engine performance with all grades of petrol, helps control corrosion, gum and varnish build-up. Helps control moisture and corrosion problems associated with non-ethanol fuel, cleans varnish and gum deposits from fuel lines, tanks, carbi's and injectors, intake valves, and spark plugs and keeps fuel fresh between fill-ups – up to 3 months. They have 3 products in the line up step 2 is Quickleen – For use as needed throughout the boating season and 3 Quickstor – Add to fuel before long-term storage of your engine which you can use next time you know you wont be using the boat for a while.
