Boat Imports from States

Hi all, I know from recent forums that some have discussed importing boats from the states. I am actually chasing some info from people who have done this or are involved with this process. I have heard of Platinum West out of Perth are they good?

If anyone could help with narrowing the search down for people who are involved with importing such boats that would be great. Any further info on what taxes and costs are involved would also be much appreciated.

Cheers Spooled

Imported recently

Fri, 2010-03-05 18:36

Hi

I have recently imported from the u.s.a

I got a Trophy 2503CC

2008 275 verado 75 hours all electronics inc c120 and radar on trailer

The cost was 66 000 aus landed

The most important thing you do is get a trailer app from canberra, after that get heaps of quotes from shipping companies, mine was PETER AND MAYS LOGISTICS

they offered the best service for me(there are heaps)

To give you an idea of costs the boat was 42000 u.s the rest of the mony to get to 66 is gst shipping inspections and customs

You do NOT pay import duty on U.S manafactured products.

Hope this helps

The same boat costs in Aus anywhere from 100 000 to 146 000 new

It was good of you to post your thoughts and costings. I have often thought of doing the same but never seriously enough to talk to anyone. It's obvious that there is good money to be saved - Well done.

trailer app

is an application to import the trailer that the boat sits on. They generally like it to be done before it arrives.

Trailer

The hardest thing about the whole importing was getting canberra to approve the trailer.....the rest is just losts of homework, if the trailer gets to fremantle withou an approval they will not release it from customs and the trailer will either be destroyed or shipped out of port at your cost....

What's the issue with the trailers?

I know most US trailers are Aluminium, but a check r rewire of the lights and check the brakes... What was the main issue?

cheers

I wouldn't say most are ali,

I wouldn't say most are ali, actually few are.

They generally fail aus standards because they're too wide, they have inadequate chains and some issues with the breakaways, if fitted.
