Boat found circling up off Alkimos this afternoon, only a dog on board. Not looking good.

Hope the person or persons are found safe
feel bad for the dog after seeing the pounding its getting from the wind waves on the 9 news footage, boat looks to be going pretty fast in a small circle.

looking at the bow , you
looking at the bow , you would be guessing he/they may have hit something heavy /big , semi submerged without any warning at cruising speed and been thrown clear .. with the boat powering away from the spot ,, sure they would have checked his gps track by now ?
hope they have got the crew as its cold out there tonight ..

Bent bow
My money is on the boat trying to power free a stuck anchor, or power off and forgot anhor was down.

Yeah you could be onto it
Yeah you could be onto it there Scotto, I was trying to imagine what you could run into out there that wouldnt know you hit it.
Can only hope he has managed to swim ashore like the diver a couple of years back

That sounds very plausible,
That sounds very plausible, or if the anchor wasn't secured in the sprit and came out unknowingly under way.

that is highly possible rob ,
that is highly possible rob , a sand anchor if he was cruising along and the anchor was not secured properly and fell over without him seeing it ,,that would yank the bow down to produce enough energy to do that and flip the skipper out /over the small windsreen and into the water maybe ?
would have needed to cut the rope though or break the anchor point , might have run him over the action or he had to swim away to a safer distance if he was able to avoid being run over as it circled at speed
i originally thought he may have been cruising along , come of a wave and hit the bow into something low and heavy in the water in the trough of the next wave ,, having the same sort of result
not looking good , hope they do find him , feel for the family involved

Good point checking the GPS
Good point checking the GPS track Hezzy, that's a great idea. Of course with wind and currents the guy wouldn't be where he departed, but even so...
I've always worn my life jacket when out boating, but gave it a rest the last few trips. Might start wearing it again.

Totally agree with Anchor
Totally agree with Anchor theory.... the angle of the nose totally looks like it's been pulled down and it's creased In on itself as well... I always wear the kill switch lanyard now because of recent incidents like this just incase I get flung out and the boat tries to mow me down or drive off

Terrible news condolences to his family and friends. Sounds as though he loved a fish with his four legged friend so id say he went doing what he loved, enjoying himself on the ocean. I've told my wife that if the ocean ever takes me, know that i went with a smile on my face doing what i loved.

If the anchor rope broke
If the anchor rope broke wouldn't you see the frayed rope hanging off the bow still tied on?

Yes that was my impression.
Yes that was my impression. I'm surprised the police didn't use a tow rope or similar to entangle the prop
