Braid

Hi All
Hoping to get some feedback on some Braid. Is it better to go the expensive stuff or is cheap stuff still ok? Reason for asking is Ebay has some cheap PEX stuff and wondering is it worth skimping out on it or better to go the well known more expensive stuff.
I have researched it a bit and read a few forums and most people say don't skimp out as you may lose the fish of a lifetime over saving $50 etc. But the people that I have read that have used the PEX stuff have said it's great. So it seems users are happy with it and the non users say don't use it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Just search the forums, ebay
Just search the forums, ebay braid is pretty bad news and not worth losing a good fish over it.
This page is pretty interesting;

Its an Australian guy that tests braid against what they write on the packet.

I have no experience with
I have no experience with PEX, but I have had experience with rubbish braid, and I would never do it again.
I had some 50lb power pro that I bought once, loaded my reel with it and took it out.
First trip I had two great runs, both fish lost during the fight due to line breaking mid line (not on the knots or anything). I really wasnt going hard on the fish so I thought I would do a test.
Tied the braid to some scales and did a break test. Line rated at 50lb was snapping mid line at less than 20lb! Needless to say it came straight off my reel, and have never touched it again.
Had some other cheap braid on another reel, cant remember the brand. It still holds a fair bit of weight, but its like it has gone mouldy or something, all sticks together on the spool till it gets wet, has lost all its colour, really not nice to use. It is pretty old in that it has sat in my tackle bag for ages, but has not been on the reel long.
Anyway personally I wouldnt skimp. If you are only talking about 300yards, the saving is more like $20-$30. Not worth it in my opinion.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Perfect
Thanks guys
I needed reassurance from guys that have used it that it is rubbish because most users say its good and all non users bag it out. Think I will steer clear.
I have an Okumu overhead (can't even remember model etc) that I have had for a few years that someone bought me and never even put line on it. I am just gonna start getting into boat fishing with my Brother in Law and was gonna load it up with some big braid so will be looking at the better stuff now I think.

Ebay sells genuine brands
Ebay sells genuine brands also and are pretty cheap.
Just stay away from those unheard of brands.

Hey Pezdog, I havent used PEX
Hey Pezdog,
I havent used PEX but as everyone else id keep my distance as its something that might possibly work but looking at the price it may not and that is something im not willing to test. At the end of the day like eveything in todays world you get what you pay for.
If you are looking for braid id definately send Till a PM, that saltiga boat braid he has is some awesome stuff and for the price he does you cant go wrong. Just a thought.

Interestingly pex
Interestingly pex purple/violet is just next to daiwa saltiga boat braid in the section "Brand, 45 to 50lb test".
They both break fairly close to each other, (within 0.08lb), but the DSBB is just 72% of the diameter of the PEX.
