Break In & enters \ Fraud thoughts?
Hi Guys
You would have to be Crazy at the moment to buy a Reel advertised on any forum, 2nd hand site or face book, with no receipt unused, no box in new condition. With the Black market hot and flooded with high end gear of late from all the break & enters not to mention the unknown fraud,i would be thinking this is being looked at by WA Police i imagine.
I guess though if some one does buy one of these reels on the black market its a gamble if you get caught or notor your just that dumb to not think they are stolen. If the original thief is caught and ends up in Jail for Fraud or Theft is he going to pass on the info of the person-people whom help sell the products and the buyers, if he doesnt then the feds will go through there phone accounts and messages forum accounts and proceed to find the reels or rods and retreive stolen property.Just a thought Buyer Beware i say.

Nico its not a Federal matter
Nico its not a Federal matter would be handled by State police as for serial numbers I do know the earlier Saltigas have them as do the new dogfight rods the ammount of fishing/sporting goods out there the chances of these scumbags being caught would be pretty slim unfortunately someone try's to take my fishing gear I will be all smiles and invite them out on the boat for a fishing trip one way of course!!!!!!

Paranoia , I presume shimano
Paranoia , I presume shimano don’t serial # their high end gear , if not why not ? .. makes it hard for cops to convict whether there’s a paper trail or not ... If they are numbered surely there’s a list of stolen ones somewhere you can check #’s against .

Yeah
Yeah, even an $80 fish finder has a serial number, you would think a $1000 + high end reel would have one too.
As for anyone buying stollen property, they are just as bad as the thieves and deserve any punishment they get. The people buying this stuff create the demand for products, and the crack heads are happy to supply their needs.

If its not advertised as stolen
If its not advertised as stolen then why shouldnt we buy it.
Next they will bust you for buying at the Sunday swap marts ? Because a lot of that stuff is surely stolen, even if it is mostly junk.
The emphasis should be on catching the scum bag thieves, not on the buyers.

really just a little bit of
really just a little bit of common sense. (and a few easy questions to the seller) will tell you if something is stolen.
as ppl have mentioned before, buyers of stolen property just perpetuate theft.

Stella's absolutely have serial numbers
And you most certainly can be charged with receiving stolen goods or, at the very least, have those goods taken from you and returned to the rightful owner or more likely their insurer

I am led to believe
The saltiga's have a serial number to identify each specific reel
the Stella's I am not so sure but if they don't already they will very shortly

I just looked at a couple of
I just looked at a couple of my stellas and couldn't see any serial numbers, unless they are inside the reel or something (which wouldn't exactly make it easy to check)
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I don't own a stella, but
I don't own a stella, but from what I remember they have a serial and it's under the mount where it makes contact with the rod
There's a picture of it's location and what the other numbers mean on this review of the 2013 stella, just scroll down until you see it:

Must only be on the 2013
Must only be on the 2013 Stellas, as I just checked a 5k, 10k and 18k of the previous model and no serial number (in that place anyway)

mmm maybe only buy from sellers on this site who has a track record
eg 6 month minimum member or something with maybe a minimum number of posts
or u have to buy something from a memeber before u can sell
anyway i feel better buying 2nd hand from this site than from ebay or gumtree
maybe blame it all on Adam G ;p

Stolen gear
I bought an engal fridge from a popular member on a fishing forum. Got told near new, only used a few times but not needed any more.
Not long later the police asked the forum owner for my details which you have given to become a member
I had the police contact me asking for the serial number.
Turns out it was stolen and was taken back
I lost the $1000 I paid for it.
As Said. Buyer beware
