Ledge Point Members
Hi fishos,
Looking for any fishwrecked members that may be from Ledge Point.... I wanted to pick your brain!!
I have recently bought a house in Ledge (By recent I mean a year ago) and I have yet to take my boat out up there, but I am planning on taking it up at easter. I have been down to the beach when some locals have pulled their boats out, some skull drag the boat up the beach and some just back the trailer down in the water with their tractor and drive the boat on and drive out.....
My question is how easy is it lauching and retrieving there at the moment? I have a 6.7 barcrusher and have a tractor at the house and wanted to know if its necessary to have to skull drag it up the beach first or will I get away with backing the trailer in the water and driving the boat on?
Also if anyone cares to share if they are getting many crays at the moment? And whats the fishing been like?
Theres a fair few questions but was hoping a local could assist!
Cheers in advance!!

Hey there Piggy , there are
Hey there Piggy , there are a couple of members on here from Ledge. I launch at Seabird mostly but from time to time launch at Ledge. I have a 5.4m Quintrex and just back the trailer in and launch, same with retrieve. I was actually up there last weekend and drove on the beach and it looks pretty good IMO. Fishing has been bloody good when we have been able to get out lol, if this damned wind ever stops. I have a few pots in at the moment with my deckie and it has slowed a little due to the full moon we've been having, it should pick up soon. I'll be up at Seabird at Easter and out as much as we can weather permitting. Give us a call over the radio if you like. I usually fish from 20m out to the mid 30's. We play golf up there when the wind is blowing and blow the froth off a few while going around ;) Good luck!

Spent a lot of time up there
Spent a lot of time up there until a few years ago, best to pull the boat onto the beach from my experience, even with a tractor. Used to get plenty of reds in close this time of year, around the reefs. South of town is good, down towards the sand patch.
For fish, start in the 16-25m mark. looking for 2-3m lumps and slightly flatter ground in 22-25m.

Ha ha the pub, it's an
Ha ha the pub, it's an ongoing saga. A guy from Gin Gin bought it for just under a Mill about a year ago and has been doing it up. Was meant to reopen at Xmas but I knew he was dreaming as there was so much work to do there. Still not open and now we hear that he might be selling it as there is family infighting as they are all trustees. Bloody shame as it's in such a good spot and we can just walk there. I love playing golf at the club when it's blowing it's guts out as there particularly s strong sea breeze as I over driven the green on the par 4 hole 5 gives you that Tiger Woods feeling lol. Like Brody said there is good ground in the 20m mark, we'll usually burley up for Pinkies at that depth.

Boat
Ledge is generally too shallow to drive a boat on mate, best to have a large rope attached to your trailer and drag the boat up onto high ground. Most of the locals and also crayfisherman do this for a very good reason- to avoid getting swamped.
You should do alright with a boat that size up there. The country club at Ledge is worth a look if you want a few beers and also a meal (Thur-Sun).
Send me a PM if you need any more info.

Hey Nauti boy, been a while.
Hey Nauti boy, been a while. How're going up there? We should all arrange a game of golf one time, would be a good way of getting to know you all. Maybe a crappy day over Easter? Piggy you in for that?

Dry winching
I used to deckie out of Ledge. I think you will struggle with a 6.7m boat off the beach. You will probably get away with launching, but getting back on the trailer would be hard work. Backing the trailer into the water will most days just result in you smashing up you boat and trailer, which leaves dragging up the beach as the other option. The cray guys just have dinghy's. Never seen anyone do it with a 6.7m boat. Apart from the weight watch out for the transducers etc. Better chance over summer when the beach is in a lot better shape and you have a lot more beach to work with, but then you have the sea breeze in the afternoon!!

6.7m
There are a few guys launching boats that big there West-Coast albeit they can get into trouble. There is even a guy with a 200hp tractor that launches a big cat.
Sea-Kem keen for a hit of golf but won't be around at Easter, I'm a member at the Ledge Club so play there most weekends. Keep in touch and we will organise a game at some stage.

Cheers for the comments fellas!
I have had no issue launching and retrieving the boat down south and up north near North head! There is also a guy that has a pretty decent size boat up there (Has a red tractor towing it) and he doent seem to have too many issues.
Seam Kem and Nauti boy I am definently keen for a game of golf over easter and we are members too!! there will be a few of us including my old man so we should tee it up..... Obiously not when the weather is good!!
Cheers for the feedback fellas!!
