Breakaway casting aids

Hi Guys.

Ever since recieving a back injury I cant cast anywhere near as far as I could before the injury.

Ive been told the Breakaway Impact clips are good for a bit more distance.

Whilst searching online for the Imp clips I found another casting aid from the same people, the Breakaway Cannon or Bionic finger.

Breakaway Cannon

Anybody use either of the products and do they help as they claim too???

Will probably find you get another another 10-20m with imp clips they need a bit of modification though as they will open up when casting into a strong wind.Just need to remove some plastic off them.I generally find there more effort than there worth to use but thats my opionion and i can cast a sinker/bait close to 100m without them anyway. If you need to get a big bait out far maybe look into slide baiting.

yeahslide baiting is the way to go it may take longer to get out but you are covering a lot of water to get it there i use it for sharks when you cant get a balloon out very effective

Hi Nelly

Are you suggesting reducing the size of the flap that releases the weight on contact with the water???

Thanks

Yep you can make it a fair bit smaller and it will still work fine. But if you leave them standard you will see they will sometimes open up mid way through a cast into a solid wind

I Have used them too and found they do work. A bit of a pain to put together. Lived in NZ for a while and met a guy that had made a pvc cannon using aerosol spray as as fuel to shoot the bait into the ocean. If you google it im sure you can find out a bit more.

fencing wire. They work pretty effectively. Sherbs uses cut down hooks - which also work well.

Hi Guys A bit of an

Hi Guys

A bit of an update.

After quite a bit of searching I got myself some Imp Clips. Its amazing to see how many tackle shops dont know about them.

I got in touch with Chas Riegerts of CR Tackle,he imports the Breakaway Tackle.I cant thank Chas enough. Not only did he supply what I was after he offered to deliver them to Williams and help me out with my casting!!!!! AN OFFER I COULDNT REFUSE.

Chas came down sunday, showed me how to get the best out of the Imp Clips using a "pulley rig".He gave my old faithfull reel,a Shakespear Sigma 080 a birthday(changed the braid over to a 20lb from 40lb and serviced the drag). We fitted a thumb grip to my 14ft beach rod and then went about learning a new casting technique.

Next it was off to the footy oval to do some casting.Chas competes in comp dry casting and had his "toys" with him.I tried my newly learnt casting style with a 100gm cast blob, first cast 90m or so with ease. Can tell you Im rapt,Im now casting at least double my previous distance,no back strain or pain.

Chas got a comp rod/reel out and let a few screamers go,125gm easily casting from goal posts to goal posts on the footy oval,an easy 200+m,AWSOME TO WATCH!!!!!

I know a few of you on here work in/own tackle shops. If you dont stock the Breakaway products, its worth having a chat with Chas. With a bit of knowledge on the best way to use the Imp Clips there is no reason they shouldnt be a top seller. He can be contacted thru his website. http://www.anglerman.com.au/index.html Chas looks after WA,Graham looks after Victoria.

For those interested in Surfcasting,Chas tells me its quite a social sport. They have "dry cast" days monthly.A great way to pick up new skills and meet other fishos.See the link on Chas' website to the Australian Surfcasting Federation.

Once again, thanks Chas.Chas took the time to travel over 2 hours from Hillaries down to Williams to help me out,VERY MUCHLY APPRECIATED!!!!

REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO CHASING A FEW FISH LATER IN THE WEEK!!!!

Enjoy

Andrew
