Hmm cray season must have started and time to dredge the bent street boat ramp Safety Bay, seems like it was only 12 months ago they closed off part of this boat ramp, wait on it was 12 months ago. Great timing council.

I don't really mind the works
I don't really mind the works as this is my ramp and should have been happening years and years ago.
You'd think it'd coincide with the end of the winter swells and if they'd done it last week one could complain that it was being done just before the demersal ban.

i asked the question why now
i asked the question why do it now the answer nearly made me choke on my tea and scones, "because we need the spring tides" my resonce was this is the metro mate not the kimberlys where you get 10 meter tides or the pilbara where you get 5 meter tides come up with a better excuse than that 1 , the phone was then disconected for some reason

It's a joke
Lots of money wasted . Sand bank closing in real quick. Cheaper to put jetty pengo side. Won't be long jetty will be under sand. I went safety bay side today for squid and taylor . Feel sorry for guys who cray that side. Absolute abortion once again .

Instead of dredging
We need a new ramp that side the sandbar will connect all the way over soon it was 10 years ago the sand bank was an island running straight out to sea. Long point is not the best ramp launch at when there is a swell.

2 Big notice boards at the ramp, you would have thought a notice could have been put up there? Well will have to see the impact of this work, crayfishermen dodging pipework early hrs of the morning.

The council really are
The council really are pushing to make it work, that whole area has been changing constantly for years. It was an island 20 odd years ago.
There should be some eco concerns as that area has or used to have signs up saying its a fragile area. Now they are sucking the end of the bar off!
I think it would be great to see what would happen naturally to that area in the next ten years. Thats just me tho and i dont have a big boat!
Bend over

Just a sand
Bank 40 years ago it was half way to passage rock. Over the years tides wind currents ect . Worked its way in. They have tried plants the lot to stop it. Now it's nearly on shore. Few more years jetty will be buried under sand. Like the old safety bay jetty. In the end they dismantled it.

uhmm sorry but
think i posted a simliar post about 18 months ago and some blokes predicted the derdged channel would be filled in with 2 years , the blokes that predicted that arnt oceanogrorifcers but locals that have have lived in the area all their life funny that , when i challenged the council on it the works the engineer incharge of the job said and i quote "nah wont need to be dredged for 10 years , funnily enough he has moved on from rocky council

spoke to the guys
who are laying the pipes before dredging he said the channel just needs tyding up the shallow is between the ramp & channel but they need environmental approval and unless that happens soon then they will only chop the end of the island off ,and come back another time after approval is granted, cant really blame council they understand the problem just red tape from all concerned

its a joke
you cant park your car on that grassed area but seems its ok to park a pipe trailer and drop of a sea container in the same spot 18 months ago rocky rangers were booking people for parking in boat trailer bays even though there was plent empty space and the car parking bays were full
funny but the bloke doing the work had his sea container in the disabled park zone

I'll be happy to help you
I'll be happy to help you write a question that will force them to produce an evidence based report. You have more knowledge than me on the issue and I have a background in policy writing so if we put our heads together we could at least push for a positive outcome. Private message me if you are keen

p/Mac!
timing might not be ideal, but when is it ever
council is trying to do something spending big $$ for safe boating
if you want to do something contact environmental dept. so that the contractor can do in one hit rather than costing double for re-mobilising
better still why dont you run for councilim sure all of us here would support your nomination

Bent street boat ramp
Bent street boat ramp dredging UPDATE...nil, dredge broken down what a bunch of cowboys, notice today they managed to break the stuffing box on the pump. 30 years in Alcoa and thousands of Warmen o/hauls never seen a s/box break like that, think the element went on Monday. Hope they are not on a daily rate?
