 Some interesting comments:

Hi Kent, will you be getting a hold of the published paper Vic Peddermos said would be coming out in 2016 saying the that according to the CSIRO the white pointer population on the east coast had increased from 700 in 2012 to around 6000 in 2016 - around 800% increase. Will you also be discussing the more exponential growth in that population is expected with future generations (we are currently at 2 and 3rd generation from the 20 year protection - larger exponential growth is expected with 4th and 5th generation). Will you be discussing the impact this will have on human interaction and endangered species such as: fraser dolphin, settler sea loin, hawaiin monk seal, pigmy killer whale and hammer head sharks? will you be looking to have a discussion around at what population size are they no longer considered "endangered" and politely explain the impact on other sea life and how this will impact on the risk to people.

gws population

Amazing isnt it in W.A. our scientific experts after manyl years study and millions of dollars of taxpayers money, tell us that they are unable to conclude there has been any increase in our population of great whites. Our fisheries dept experts and scientists do not give any credence to public and commercial fishermens observations as they are not qualified to make scientific observations. These observations are degraded to anecdotal reports with no technical validity. Apparantly the public servents employed by these organisations are the only people to have the authority to be included in a shark census. Seeing that most of the experts rarely venture into or onto the ocean ,spending most of thier time in offices, at conferences or sipping cups of tea it is to be expected that thier data is not sufficient to identify any increase. I would go further and say they dont want to accept any evidence for a poulation increase. I suspect that these people are greenies who rate a great whites life way behond that of human. We have all heard the arguements that it is not our ocean, we are invading the gws habitat etc. Just look at the pathetic attempt at drum lines that never caught one white shark in W.A. waters yet every where else in the world this method works very well. These people never wanted to really catch one. And now we are told that control method doesnt work. Just who do these people think they are fooling.

Well said mate, while they were drum lining on the west coast they were tag and releasing on the sth coast...

But she's right we'll just keep throwing dollars into the westpac chopper to give everyone the warm fuzzy feeling that everything is alright even though it had only passed not so long before Chris Boyd got chewed at Ellensbrook.
