worms work a treat

any fresh bait works well but have caught plenty on river prawns. yabbies, pipies, maggots, fresh fish pieces/fillet all work, sandworms etc. even grasshopers/cicadia work in the summer.

almost time to start fishing the collie so I'll drop you a line and we can head out

congrats on the bream.

If only we could get live sand worms here or saltwater yabbies

They are dynamite. As damo said, fresh bait will win out just about every time.

When fishing in the swan/canning nothing beats a fresh pippi or mussel.

For the pippis try digging around on any shallow sand flats/sand bars where you can see circular patches of different coloured sand where the pippis have been digging.

For mussels just pick them off any of the jettys or bridge pylons.

The best part is if you rig them on whole they are almost completely blowie proof and my best ever bream of about 45 cm was caught on a whole small mussel under canning bridge
