Bream in the Guildford area after the rain.

Bream have been going mental in the last 24 hours after the rains - they have been moving out of their holes and are on the prowl for interesting bits and pieces washed into the river by the rains. I've been targetting areas where they might find things of interest. Two hours last night, a bit of berley and peeled prawns for 3 in the 20 cm range, two in the 30cm range and once stonking big-boy who crossed the magic 40 cm mark. Just trying to organise a picture of him now.

Nice catch mate, I was thinking of getting down amongst it on Saturday or Sunday... what size and type of hooks were you using?  I normally use size 2 suicide...

Actually, I've been experimenting a bit recently.

That bloke was caught on a #4 size Gamakatsu Worm Extra Wide Gap WX

Bought 10 different types of hooks recently and have been trialing them on my local bream - really happy with this particular one actually. Lotta hook-ups, always in the mouth, never the gut or gills.

Dunno if this link will work or not, but we'll give it a go....

hooks

i always use the shiner gamas, a lot better for the fish.

other mates swear by using smaller hooks but the fish get damaged.

Sorry mate - I've lost you there. As opposed to what? Hitting them with a brick/taking them to a Justin Beiber concert/suicide hooks?

I've been testing a lot of different makes and a lot of different sizes and noting lip/mouth/gill/gut hooks in relation to bites.

Cool

I resumed my fishing hobby this year with 2 trips near Lilac Hill and both trips were productive, both for me and for my 2 daughters (11 and 8) who were fishing for bream for the first time. Over both trips we caught about 10 fish, most in the 10-20cm range and one big one that got away. The mozzies sure found it productive the second time around too :)

Good to hear they are still around. I tend to avoid the area after a good rain. Will try again soon.

Just got back from tonight -

Just got back from tonight - not a frantic as last 2 nights but still good. Nothing over 30cm but 8 fish (2 probably legal) in 3 hours which is fine and fun. Something VERY large took a whole unweighted prawn at about 16:15 (still quite light), effortlessly peeled off about 10 metres of 3lb drag in lazy circles and then spat the hook. Either fecking HUGE bream or little mulla. Lot of bait responding to berley well. Unfortunately, so did ducks.

Windan Bridge

Went for a walk tonight about 9PM and saw a heap of people fishing off the Windan Bridge walkway area. Went for a look but only saw them catching a few blowies...

that time of the month RedPhin?? or have u got a bit of sand in your vagina??

using shiner hooks as opposed to using baitholder / keeper or long shank hooks sweet heart.

by quoting only the first line, i guess you didn't read the second line, it might of helped you understand what i was getting at.

>>> Lot of bait responding to berley well.

sorry mate - i've lost you there. is your bait eating your burley??
