Depends

I'd say around July August - winds are often kindest around this time, depending. Correct me if I'm wrong.

As for fuel, if your venturing out to Rosily Kays and alike thats an aweful lot of fuel you'll need if your there for a good week or two. You'll pay a premium for it on the island, but sometimes you just have to do it.

i would have said April or May as it cools off before the easterlies kick in but i'll be there in October and i'll battle the westerlies instead. Fuel up full at Onslow and see how you go, the price difference is about 40c per litre from my last visit ($2 a litre on the island) i filled up on the island but i really didn't need to as i used 34L out of my 130L for 2 days. If the weather isn't kind you're not going far that's for sure

i've been between August and July over the last 3 years and have got excellent weather (lost 1 morning in 14 days).

Saying this people a week either side of us have lost time due to the winds in the last couple years....

As for fuel, we spend a week there - I'd rather pay a small premium but have room on the boat / not have to lug spare fuel around.

but this year the wind has been shocking only got three half days fishing in 20 knott winds in two weeks! havent had a year like that before though!

the wind is not too bad up this way at the moment though!! im just inland of onslow and as for the fuel you have to buy it on the island unless you have a huge tank as your not allowed to store it on the beach or at your hut!

I was there in Sept last year

I was there in Sept last year and only had one day blow right up. Booked for another week in August this year. Fuel at $2.00 a litre isnt too bad when you see what they have to do to earn their extra 40c.

Agree with Brucesta regarding April/May. I would avoid winter like the plague, 30 knot easterlies aren't fun in anyones book.
