Bream on lures

Hi everyone, over the past 6 months or so I've been chasing bream on baits with a couple rods but kept myself occupied with some hard bodies and softies. But I have only ever caught 1 yellowtail grunter on them. A problem probably is that I have never covered a distance throwing out lures but I think that there is more to it.

Firstly I am using a variety of hard bodies. I have 2 atomic hardz breamshad40's which are pretty much clear with red eyes. I also have 5 lures which are 50mm one which is pinky with a white belly and black dots, two with a white bottom, grey middle with scales and a top darker greyish colour. The last one is also 50mm with a dark brown top, light brown middle again with scales and a black bottom. I am working them resionably slow with a few twitches. I am connecting them to a 2m fluoro leader and a lefty's loop around the split ring.

with the soft plastics I am using 1/24 ounce jig heads and 1/16 ounce jig heads, in size 1 hooks. The first colour of the grubs are 2 inch, dark brown with shiny glittery stuff in the middle. The other soft plastic is 1 1/2 inches and has a clear/white/green with glitter in the middle aswell. I think I might order some size 2 jig heads instead of size 1 for them because they are a bit big. I work them slowly with twitches after letting it sink for a bit. When I'm fishing off the shore I usually let it sink. Then twitch it and let it hit the bottom.

so if anybody realises anything that is wrong with my technique or if I am not moving around enough to find the fish myself, please let me know. I have been told that if you walk along the shore, and see where the tide has come out to and you also see there cracked mussel shells and other natural things that bream eat on high tide, to cast around that area because there shod be fish near there. I haven't tried this before because This morning I watched a fishing wa episode in the sean getting bream on lures.

So if anybody has anything to say about my technique or the lures themselves, please let me know because I really want to crack the code of using lures.

thanks,

lachie

 Target structure

Target structure specifically, the chance of your lure ending up in front of a bream increases tenfold. Also pause your retrieve for a fairly long time as often they will hit on the pause.

I think you've been trolled

I think you've been trolled Lachie... Seems to me your not doing too much wrong, keep working at what youre doing mate, the fish will come.
The trouble with Bream is they like it where your lures don't. In other words work the structures as Hutch said and in between a few snags and a few lost lures , you will score a few. Each time you catch a Bream ,keep the spot in mind for next time, after a while you will accumulate heaps of potential spots that will give you a chance of a fish or two. The same applies to other fish like Barra as well.

If you catch them on bait

If you catch them on bait then you know they're there atleast. I've had a crack around your secret spot area a few times, never done too well, but have got a few from that little jetty that about 100m or so down from your spot. Just casting paralell to the shore, about a metre out from the trees. Just a SLOW retrieve. Just enough to get the tail wiggling or the hard body vibrating.

So I think that the main

Mon, 2014-10-13 19:02

So I think that the main thing that I have got from this thread is that I need to probably work the lure a bit slower, have longer pauses, move to more snaggy areas and maybe buy another lure or two. Thanks everyone for the help so much. It has been a really lg-term goal and I will probably give it a shot on the weekend
