I would like to hear from people who have been to the Mackerel Islands and got there with their own (trailer)boat.
Launch at Onslow or go from Exmoutht?
moorings seem to be available as are cabins.
Any worthwhile info is most welcome.
Thanking you up front for your contribution.

Launch is from Onslow and
Launch is from Onslow and there is secure parking available in a locked compound for your vehicle and trailer. The run across to Thevenard Island is around 25 km, the tanks are visible from the mouth of Beadon Creek. There is cabins overlooking the moorings as well as more basic donga style accomadation available. Lovely place to vist. Drew and Tracy and staff bend over backwards to help everyone feel welcome and have a great time.
Im back there for another week in August.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

onslow launch is for folks that want to get to the pub faster
go from exxy and fish the murions and peak on the way over.
Long way home if it turns crap though.
You can always just stay until it comes good again
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

I have in real term no need
I have in real term no need for accomodation as my boat has all the ammenities I need.
Only real item needed is a secure mooring, but a unit for a hot shower, a good night sleep with a sensational dinner is worth the effort!

The guys from Saltwater
The guys from Saltwater Flyrodders had their annual northern trip to Thevenard so a lot of info there if you want some.
You can get food and fuel on the island and while not cheap, the reasoning for it not being bad value was that you wouldnt have to keep a weeks+ worth of food there (or more if it turns really nasty). The fuel was a bit more expensive (I think $2/L) but because you're not going from Onslow each day you save kilometers are you dont have to go as far each day (depending where you're fishing). So it evens it out quite a bit (plus less travel is good). The downside is that if it is windy, you cant fish the creeks easily. However, you can still fish landbased on the island (and being an island, theres always a lee side). On medium weather you can still boat it round to the comfortable side.
Fishing wise, the boys did really well. They were mostly chasing 'sport' fish but a huge variety of species up there. Lots of tasty fish plus more fighting ones like queenies, trevs, etc. Can see if I can get more info if you want.
Oh, and make sure your boat is secure. Ask uncle about that one, hehe.
