G'day mate, I spoke to a good mate who lives up there and he caught 9 sailies last week and it was one of the best sessions he has ever had up there after bringing up/spotting at least 40 fish for the day!as for bottom bouncing it hasn't effected it either!!.
The river is still high but that's normal for that much rain and is good for the cherabin!
I'm not a local but I have been to broome fishing with my mate that lived there "boofhead" and had some great success but he always talks about the "bumps" that are off willie creek but we didn't have a GPS mark. have you heard of this place ? and if you have whats the best way to find it and what is the fishing like there? sorry for all the questions but i won't get to go to broome again for a very long time and i am only going to be there for a week and i don't want to waste any time searching for this special spot just to find out that it is crap
Okay it's about 1 and a half drive away but if you drive north towards derby you should cross a little river called the Fitzroy on the Willare bridge, you shouldn't miss it!.
The wet we just had is a good thing up here in so far as the stocks of baitfish are prolific due to the run off into Roebuck bay. All species of fish are benefitting from this and as the season goes on it will only get better.
We are seeing the best Threadie run in about eight years with the bonus of mulloway mixed in, as Blakey said the sails are in good numbers at barred creek in good numbers although flighty at the moment as they round up small bait schools. It was easier to leave the teasers in the boat and sight fish for them over easter, just seeing them in large numbers zipping around the surface was rewarding in itself. Heaps of good size macks around so not hard to catch and the bottom bouncing has been excellent with everything from snapper through to Reds and trout being caught in good numbers.
The Fitzroy is just starting to settle so in the next week or two it should fire up before it cools down too much.Willie creek is fishing well for barra.
in the past we have fished a spot called disaster rock about 14km out from broome and had some very good days . do you know this spot ? is it still a good ? can you recommend a spot to fish for trout macks and/or GT's
Hey has anyone fished the upper reaches of Barred creek recently for threadies and Barra?? Never fished it before but heading that way next week so might have a bit of a landbased stickybeak. Also Telegraph Pool and Tumblegridiron (no idea how this is spelt) any info??
Yeh I'd been to Barred Creek before and so it was expected, however it still blew me away the sheer numbers of the little biting bastards, Quondong Point was just as bad.
