Busselton inshore fishing and crabbing with the kids

Gday, Taking the family to Busselton next week for some quality time staying across from geographe waters got a 4.2 tinny, only have safety gear onboard for 2mile-no parachute flares/epirb, packing the flickys and crab nets hoping to burley up some herring/whiting, not sure on areas for crabs, any tips or advice would be great, just abit of fun for the kids

Use the search on here mate there is lotsa stuff on here regarding whiting in the sand holes etc....
Not sure about the crabs at the moment but usually they are within 50m of the beach so dont get sucked into being out to far....
Squid will have slowed down but get a drift going and throw as many rods out as youve got with various colours and let them come to you, you should get a feed and perhaps you could even let one of the kids learn how not to pull a squid in by leaning over the boat and pulling it directly towards said kid..... It will be something they'll talk about for a few years i'd reckon.... The painted ink kid

Bit early for crabs, but you may find some. I used to put in at Port Geographe marina, and once I left the mouth of the marina, I'd turn right and as soon as I was clear of other boat traffic, I'd run my nets along there. Always went late afternoon and always used mulies for bait. Make up bait pockets out of plastic gutter guard.

Just got back from down there woody. Getting them along the edge of the first weed bank from abbey up to Broadwater. Quite a few around which is unusual for this time of year as Dale said. Take a torch and walk along the beach at night too. Watch out for barnacle disease. Saw a couple the other day with it.

That's the beauty of boat squidding!
Set up a nice drift over the weed/sand and let the jigs drift along with you...just give the kids rods/handiness, drop jigs down to just above the bottom (you'll be able to see everything) and tell them to hang on!
You can also troll small metals and bibbed minnows around, just on idle speed, and get pike, hezzas, skippy and maybe even a tailor or two.
At night, try casting whitebait on little gangs off the beach...more herring, tailor, and sometimes a flathead!
