I don,t fish there very often, but it would be possible to get Snapper , sambo's and Mulloway this time of year .
You would be better of catching fish like Herring and Gardies. Squid should be showing up too and they get some real monsters there.
While your fishing for the smaller stuff, put out a nice fresh bait like a Herring or yellowtail, or better, a live bait. The jetty can turn up some real supprises and its always worth having a big bait out.
I wouldn't be targeting a specific fish, just anything big that will take the bait. Use a running rig with a set of gangs or a snell ( two hooks ) . I the wind is in the right dirrection you could put the bait under a float or a small balloon, this would help you avoid catching stingrays.
Best thing to do is watch what the locals are using and rig up like they do, it won't be hard to work out the guy's that know what they are doing compared to others that dont fish there much.
Caught a couple of squid within a few casts last weekend, threw one out live under a balloon and by the time it got 50 meters out had a 78cm salmon hooked all within half an hour, lots of small skippy and herring around so just chuck out a livie and see what happens.
i went for a walk out to the end of the jetty with my son on tues day night there were a couple of guys trying for snapper. they had a bucket load of big tailor though

The First Storm.
Usually the first storm from the N-NE in May get the pinkies on the move and they hit the jetty shortly after.
