Busso jetty tailor

Are the tailor still happening at the jetty in the evenings?  Thinking of going down there tomorrow night.

cheers

We cleaned up on them earler this week with bag outs all round. My mate hooked one that was over 1 mtr long ( 4 of us saw it ), lost it to the pylons.

Next thing Rat you'll be suggesting that pigs do fly. You've long been a source of humour for jetty fishermen with some of your reports.

Laugh all you want it is true over 1 mtr long, the type of tailor you might catch in albany or Kalbarri on odd occasion. Nothing suprises me in the ocean anymore... nothing.

The only place that will have tailor the size of the ones The jetty rat mentioned down this way is on the west coast with a bit of surf running and mainly at Windmills. The jetty only has chopper tailor this time of year because of the water conditions.

Fri, 2013-01-18 14:47

Been catching 45-55 cm regularly at the moment, I know they are catching 60 cm on the west coast so that is not far off that size also we are expecting to see the 60 cm tailor around next month. Talk to any of the old boys and they will tell you very large tailor were around back in their day. The fishing is good at the moment so anything is possable. Never underestimate what surprises the ocean can bring, as a fish'o you should know this.

musta been a good yarn spun about the giant potato cod, and later his little brother, that were reported to be out the end of the jetty for quite some time,  a while back.

the local paper musta been spinning us a yarn too, even to the extent of having spun yarn pics in the paper.  musta been all spun yarns about the spaniards caught down this way as well. hell , must be a lot of yarn spinners down here when you hear these stories about muddies as well.  wonder if i should spin ya all a yarn about  the meter and a half squid me and a mate got out the 300 or perhaps the one about the huge bluefin that had my reel running hot as he headed for the cape from the junction,or maybe the yarn about over a hundred mullys caught in one evening out near the old shed.  spose it'd be really stretching it to spin the bit about them taking baits near the surface like hungry herring.

perhaps ya all would like to hear the yarn about the giant sea turtle my wife and i saw swimming parallel to the jetty on a new years eve many moons ago.  nah, ya all don,t want to hear those,.... surely.  ya all know they,d all be b.s coz them type of things never happen out there ,  right...?  yeah, it just doesn't happen coz all those beastys out there know they can't go there if they are from somewhere else or they are too big to mix it with the littlies.

by the way, did i tell ya the one about.. nah stuff it, some people just wouldn't believe it coz they already know it all .  like your reports j.rat. keep em comming.

Tailor

Fri, 2013-01-18 08:53

There was good tailor out the jetty late sunday conflicting reports on size from someone else that was out there that the big ones were 700-900 mm hard to judge size from 3mt up as no big ones were landed still good size tailor in  any location. I believe your yarns  inoz I was there in those times. Some of the jetty reports I repeat some do conflict with other info from someone out there regulary and from personal fishing time but at least he is doing a report for others. I try to conceal what I catch as much as I can on the jetty so I dont get bombed out by others

Howard has fished the jetty more times than you guys have hot dinners. He knows a lot about down there. You will get meter long fish among salmon schools at times, that's well documented.

I actually eat my hot dinners

Sat, 2013-01-19 19:06

I actually eat my hot dinners on the jetty, I fish the old girl 5-6 days a week and I know most the old boys who have been fishing it since the days of it being a working jetty yet I have never met Howard out there before. Remember if you think you know everything about fishing then you really know nothing, if Howard thinks there are only choppers on the jetty at this time of year and monster fish arn't possable then he  is ignorant or doesnt know how to fish the jetty for the bigger fish. If howard doesn't think it is possable he should wander out to the end and ask all the jetty rats who saw it, I would like to see him try to explain to those guys that what they saw was not a tailor.

Smiths beach

Sun, 2013-01-20 09:14

Take a walk down the beach towards Super Tubes or the middle reef, it usually scours out and forms a bit of a gutter that holds fish in the evenings.

Reading reports on what gets caught and where brings back memories of a certain caravan park owner who used to ring in reports to the weekend papers of salmon being caught at Canal rocks and Smiths beach about a month before they were due to arrive so it would tempt anglers to come down for a few days and hopefully book in to his property. Like all reports, unless you see it with your own eyes or can trust the reporter, you take it with a bag, not a pinch , of salt.

We had a guy posting on this web-site from the Environment group who operate on the jetty and his reports were fancifull to say the least but all about getting revenue from the dumb fishers who didn't know any better, but one post that he made and was eventually shut down " What's it like to hook a Dolphin "and all the redneck's started up which was pure gold for the Greenie movement. They couldn't have hoped for a better outcome. Now I've got no objection to people making reports as long as they're accurate and there's some truth to them but I don't think thats been happening.

The Funny Thing Jetty Rat

Sat, 2013-01-19 23:39

Of all the people you claim that have seen this fish not one person has posted to support your claims Rat and I can't find any posts of anyone claiming to have hooked a tailor 1 metre plus on the Busso. jetty recently. We get rumours all the time about who caught what and where and most turn out to be BS and personally I don't shop at BCF in Busselton because of the BS you dish out Rat and a lot of people have said the same. Even though you use the tag "The jetty Rat" you are far from being one and refering to the jetty as the " Old Girl" is disrespectfull of the structure and all it means to the local community. We get blow-ins all the time blowing their bags and trying to impress people with their knowledge and all they end up being is legends in their own minds and in the mean time the true jetty fishermen just quietly goes about doing what he loves best with the least ammount of fuss.

As I said Howard walk out to

Sun, 2013-01-20 10:43

As I said Howard walk out to the end of the jetty and ask around simple as that. To me howard you sound like the ignorant old fish'o who is not willing to learn anything new, not willing to put in the hours to get the bigger fish, not willing to fish anywhere else along the jetty becides your same spot, ie you never venture out the end. You are hardly the quiet fish'o either since you are always on here dragging other peoples posts down. I didn't want to make this personal Howard but you seem to like making it that way. I always listen to the older blokes, am always willing to learn something new whether it be from the younger guys or the older guys, I hope I never end out being a grumpy old stuck in the mud  like you Howard.

Edit : I invite you to come out and fish with me for a few sessions Howard if you really think I am BS. I am not hard to find.

Mate stop being a girl all

Sun, 2013-01-20 04:00

Mate stop being a girl all arguing over a friggen jetty. The bloke does a report which not only takes up his time, but I'm sure helps a lot of people as well. Give the bloke a break and here's a simple piece of advice - if you don't like his report then don't bloody read it. Otherwise go home to your mum and have a nice cup of warm milo.

Who cares if his tailor was

Sun, 2013-01-20 12:35

Who cares if his tailor was actually 1m, or about any of the other claims Howard or the Rat have made, all that matters is that TheJettyRat provides fishwrecked members consistant reports about the Busso jetty, which i dont seem to remember anyone else consistantly posting reports of. So leave the personal insults out, and just thank Rat for his reports, although they may seem unreliable or blown up, its your choice to believe them, Rat isnt forcing you to believe them.

WRONG!!!

Sun, 2013-01-20 14:26

If I''ve read a report and made the trip down from say Bunbury to fish the Busso jetty on the strenght of it and found that they hadn''t seen a tailor of any size for a month and the report said they were there, I''d be really pissed off. The same goes if I put in a false report on catches off the jetty up here and people who would have normally travelled straight through, stopped over and caught bugger all, they wouldn''t be happy chappies either and would be after my gizzards.

If you are going to make a report get all the facts right before sticking it on any , not just this site.

let the fishin begin!

Tue, 2013-01-22 01:48

well good mornin all, its 1:20am ive just got home from the busso jetty, myself and TJR went out with a couple of mates to our usual spot, started scouting for tailor and bonito by 6pm, i got pinged straight away by im thinking a decent size nita, but still picked up a 48cm nita, TJR got himself another 60+cm greenback at 10:10pm and the usual couple of 40+cm.

bit hard fishin the jetty tonight the wind blowin straight off the end pretty much n since we only use light line to catch these fish, its hard to keep ur line tight to hit em! got 2 runs on my ringys, definately pinkys, since ive already caught a 60cm pinky in same spot last thursday nite, also lost 2 bronzys off there 1 on wednesday night n 1 on friday morning, both took my squid lines with dead trumps as bait.

also for those who wanna know if the TJR is true in every report he makes, he is. i'm the one who hooked a metre long tailor off the end busso jetty last week. i fought him for a good 10 mins,i got him to the jetty directly under a light and i can tell u theres nothing wrong with my eyes or any of the lads fishing with me that night (4 of us  and the others fishing around us who also saw it as it was a massive tailor.

oh i forgot about the group of about 50 odd tourists who were out the end when i hooked up, unfortunately it got the better of my 10lb mono trilene n lil dawia spin combo, haha, all in all fishing out the jetty is at its best at the moment and can only get better.  myself and TJR have been taking people out to our lil haven to show em how it should be, we both on a 2 day break at the moment since we have fished the jetty for 7 of the last 8 days and done 2 all nighters!!

 This thread is hilarious...

All I can say is that the jetty rat made a recent trip to busselton a lot easier with his report which was 100% spot on! He also provided extra info over PM and my brother and ol man met him on the jetty and we saw him there every night before we discovered he was the jetty rat.

IMO he contributes a great deal to the forum and wether or not there was 1m tailor I'd certainly believe there was a monster at least.

I did the ring around

Tue, 2013-01-22 15:01

I did the ring around and got some info regarding the tailor on the jetty. There was a fish hooked on a rod with 10lbs line that ran approx 200m, then came in and went around a pylon. The fish did not jump or break the surface once. One person said that the fish was a sambo approx a metre long and another said probably a tuna. On Sunday there was a few sambos hanging around the end in the 1 metre range. I can confirm thou that there is a lot of tailor about, most in the 25cm to 40cm, and the occasional 40cm to 70cm. No photos or conformed reports of anything bigger so far.

Tue, 2013-01-22 15:30

I hooked him on the 30lb with the Sustain first but he head shook and spat my hook, jumped right onto my mates 10lb cheap'o Diawa combo moments later, that is when the fun began.  He broke the surface stright down near the pylons and my old mate managed to get his head out of the water he then did a side roll just before he headed back out to sea like a steam train pinging the leader around the pylon. He stayed on the surface the whole time, did not dive down deep into the pylons like a sambo plus a smabo would have pinged 10lb straight away since they go a heck of a lot harder than a tailor. Hopfully with a bit of luck and patience another monster like this will come through and be landed so this question of what it was can be sort of put to rest once and for all.

I agree that pics would have helped, you did piss me off though when you called me a BS artist and said that my reports are BS, that was disrespectfull to a fellow fisho. I respect you as a fisho Howard because I know that you are of the old guard who have been fishing these waters for years, I just wish you would show the same respect and a bit more faith in the new guard. I have been fishing the jetty for 10 years and I don't plan on going away anytime soon so we are just going to have to get along or we will end up bickering, that is something I don't want.

i hooked that tailor mate and it was at least a metre n it was a tailor,it did break the surface, straight down just b4 he dragged me into the pylon, the scales n the green-blue colour down back to the tail, tells me he was a greenback, also when it tried to spool me i locked my spool off with my hand to turn him round,if a tuna or sambo(metre+) was running and u did that with only 10lb mono,it would snap ya straight out!but for those sceptics n non-believers out there im investing in a head cam,so i can record everything i hook!!!lol, come out the jetty anytime and i'll tell u all bout it over some smoked tailor!!

Howard George you are a Muppet

Ive personally seen 5 pics of Tailor bearing on 1 metre (2 of which have been from the jetty) this week alone!

No person i know spends more time and has more knowledge on the Busso Jetty than Jetty rat.

He's helped out countless people on this forum and i have customers that come in daily to give praise for all his effort and advice!

Just cause you havent caught em doesnt mean their not being caught..Believe me, ive been in this game for a while down here now and ive caught and seen pics of species that no one would ever believe!

People have been sending PM's to me saying the versions of The Jetty Rat and that of kaotic jetty rat are different on what happened that night. They better put their heads together again and work out which ones correct. I guess the laughs on them afterall.
