Buying a boat

Hi all
Seriously looking at buying a boat, and was wondering about private buying.
How do you check if there is money owing on the boat? What else should I be looking for in terms of owner actually owns it etc? Is the HIN on the paperwork?
Any by other tips welcome. :)

Revs check for money owing same as car,
Always sight the current rego... it will have all details you need like year, hin, motor serial number, and always check registered length as some boats are modified but not registered as such.... beware homemade boat length extensions.
Google buying a boat in wa. DOT has info to follow.
