Buying crays , fish etc , limits?

gday , just talking to some work mates ( non fishos) about the cash for crays scheme, pros selling to the public , trial just announced and some questions came up .( YES I AM WORKING OVER XMAS, SO HUMOUR ME)

The questions are , do cray and fish possession limits apply if your purchasing fish , ie
if I decide to buy 50 crays over xmas and have them at home , whats the go if somehow inspected?
Or if I legally catch say 10 crays , and have them at home , can I go buy say another 20 crays , and keep them in there too?

Or if I buy 41 kgs of fish fillets and have them in the freezer , is that a breach?

I know some will say , as long as you have a reicept or something , you would be fine , but wheres the legal req to keep such a receipt.?

thoughts?

Not quite correct, only if you need to prove it was not rec caught, ie above possession limit.

 I wouldn't have thought

I wouldn't have thought there would be any reason to have your house searched, unless theee was a report or you were caught doing the wrong thing, I have 5 Barra in my aquaponics system, I purchased these but they are under the size limit and I am over the possession limit, where I live i have caught many Barra around the size of the ones I have, I'm not worried about fisheries rocking up to my place and having a crack at me for undersize and over possession because they have no reason to come to my place and I have done no wrong

Agreed, its unlikely.

However just because something's unlikely doesn't make it legal, and as many people have found out fisheries will take things to the letter of the law, and its upon us all , according to them ,too know every single law or rule if you are going to fish , or possess fish.

But that's not really what I asked, in that guys in work where asking if theres a limit to how many crays or fish you can buy and possess verses ones you can catch and possess.
I did re read the cray phamplet and fish one too , but it only mentions things you personally have caught , with no mention of non fishers buying and possessing limits.
Or to that matter a fisho catching his crays , then buying a couple more.

Best bet then is to call

Best bet then is to call fisheries with the question and get them to email you the answer, that way there is a paper trail and not he said, she said

finfish update

Aha just found a single line in the fish booklet ,
it states ,, commercially purchased fish are excluded from limits , however a proof of purchase may be asked for ,, unquote.
So IT MAYBE asked for , whatever that means in law.
( its at the bottom of page 36)

Just keep your reciept/proof of purchase and produce it if asked. Simple.
