Submitted by Rodrat on Mon, 2009-11-02 20:17
Hi All
Our group of fishos are headin to Exmouth next year in May for two weeks.
We will be camping on a powered site at the lighthouse caravan park.
This will be the first time i have been camping up north, so was wondering if anyone had any
ideas about the things to take to make life a little more comfortable besides the usual stuff ie. tent, bed, alcohol etc....
Cheers marc

Yep thats on my list for sure.
I have looked up the weather history for that time of year
and it said maximum average of 28 degrees during the day.
But early 30's during the day is ok, as long as it aint to warm at night! Should have the sea breeze too hopefully.

Site
If it's a sandy site then some shade cloth for the living area outside the tent is a god send. Helps keep the amount of sand in the tent down as well.
+ Dustpan and brush.

Camping out - Powered site in a CP!
Hair dryer and slippers..haha
Seriously now;
Small torch for finding ya way to the loo at night.
Shade cloth - double this over for best results (will be better then fake grass).
Some baby powder - sprinkle around things that you don't want ants into.
Get a good camp chair - not those cheap bag ones.
Aeroguard
Fly net for hat.
Ear plugs.
A good port and some dark chocolate.
Cheers Pete

I camped for a bit over a week same time of year earlier this year. Didnt have many problems with the heat. Not sure if I lucked out or it was typical (was pretty warm during the day in the sun though, but the tent was in the shade and had a bit of a breeze). Didnt bring a fan, but didnt need it (better to bring and not use than not bring and need though). Made sure to put the tent in an area that had a lot of shade the whole day, especially midday/arvo.
Poweboards/extension leads are useful, and so's a hanging light so you can see what you're doing without having to hold a torch.
Oh, and if you're staying at the lighthouse caravan park, theres lots of shade under the trees, but try not to park your car under them (the ones with needle type leaves). If it rains then a mixture of salt and tree sap covers your car :S.

Decent tent pegs
Don't bother with el cheapo tent pegs, lash out and buy some heavy duty suckers.
Will stop the tent get whipped when the breeze comes in. I have used 600mm star pickets in the past, worked a treat. (Bunnings)
