Carnarvon 8/4. - 17/4

Hey guys, I'm going to be in Carnarvon from tomorrow, any other Fishwrecked crew up that way?

I'm hoping to get over to the islands if the weather allows. Anyone got any tips on what direction to head?

Didn't have to wait long for

Didn't have to wait long for that one !

Simo, I wouldn't entertain going to the islands with anything less than a 6.0m boat. If you have never been there, don't think of shooting the gap between the islands. It can get quite nasty there even on flat days.

I would go to the top of the islands and fish down the west side. We usually find good fish in 60m plus but there is a lot of dead ground. You can fish in close to the islands in Easterlies and catch plenty of Baldies. Also fish the top of Koks Island for pinks. There is a lump comes up to around 30m and usually pinks on top.

If you don't go all the way to the islands there is usually some good ground a couple of Km's from the islands, we look for water 20m plus. A lot of people find some ground and anchor, I prefer to drift, provided the drift is not too fast. That way we are constantly finding new ground. Plenty of pinks, cod and black snapper this way.

Have a floater out the back for the odd mackerel.

If it's windy, be ready for a rough ride cause it gets very choppy in an Easterly and can be quite dangerous. It's a long way out so be prepared.

Good luck.

Drift

Do not drift, if you come across a lump with a school of fish on it and you drift through it, you take some of the school each time you pass through.
Anchoring on it allows you to clean up and not spoil it for someone else, that is why you find nearly 100% of boats from up here anchor for bottom fish and with the amount of tide you can still drop a floater out for a macky

Would have liked to do a meet and greet but will probably pass you on the road to Gero, be down there for a couple of days for yet another knee op and when I get back won't be feeling like driving for a while
