haven't fished it for a few years now but it used to be a top spot for mulloway and tailor, some idiot burnt out a large section towards the end as I said earlier I haven't been back for ages but apparently it hasn't been repaired yet
Used to live in Carnarvon and fished the jetty nearly every weekend as a youngster.Biggest catch would have been a cod which was around eighty kgs and then there were the kingie tailor macks queenfish bream big sharks catches.
The repairs have been done on the burnt out section , where some mongrels decided to light a fire on a 30 knot night at low tide so we couldn't get the rescue boat in with a fire pump to extinguish it. That led to the decision to sacrifice a couple of bays and cut through the jetty on the ocean side of the fire to stop it spreading .
While waiting for the fund to fix the hole , the outer section from the shed out fell in to major disrepair and is still out of bounds today due to piles being eaten through by worms and no funds to get new piling done.
There is a new jetty discovery and function centre open or not very far from it behind the old train carriage.
That history out of the way, my biggest fish landed on the jetty is a mulloway about 20kg, the biggest seen but not landed was a huge tiger and the most disappointed, was a mate after the spool on his ABU 10.000 exploded after a four stubby fight with what we think was a huge cod when the join in his line showing 30 metres just came in to sight.
Ive also fished the jetty when i lived there for a few months ,... the Jetty kids were cool, they could catch anything, Huge sharks, giant Cod, and if you needed a bait or two they would show you how to get one. I was happy to sit under the jetty dropping unweighted prawns down for the bream, would keep one for the cook. The mulloway would come through in big schools, it wasnt unusual to see 20 + big fish get caught in 20minutes or so when they were on the go. A great place to fish.
I remember those big schools of mulloway coming thru It would be mayhem for about 45 minutes and then stop as quick as it started to carnovonite does the train still run out to the end getting a bit old to carry all my gear out to the end if I ever get a chance to fish it again and might need to find a jetty kid to climb down under the jetty to catch me some snook to use as live bait not sure I could climb down there these days
The train still runs and if you get hungry or thirsty and don't want to leave, they will bring what you need from the carriage shop for you with no extra cost I believe.
I fished the jetty on a week long trip in april I fish most nights with not much luck got plenty of good size tailor which most of were turned into bait for those big mullas but was unable to get one plenty of runs from big sharks though I actualy found the mornings to be mor productive using octo jigs got shit loads of small to good size queenies also got a few big travaly and lost 10 octos to monster travaly how ever it was still real windy while I was there so the fishing was a little hard going. there are also plenty of yellow fin bream to be caught all day and night
