Carrying outboard on ute with rooftop dinghy.

Hi Everyone,

I was chasing peoples ideas/opinions about ways of carrying an outboard engine on the back of the ute with a rooftop dinghy sort of arrangement. Basically, I have a landcruiser ute with a canvas canopy that's getting modified by Marindi's in Bunbury to have a larger roof rack and the ability to put my 12.5 foot punt on the roof. I'm looking for a way to carry a 20 HP yamaha on the back of the ute, though not in the canoopy. I was looking to mount it outside sort of at the back of the tray.

I've heard about having swing away arm style holders for them so you can still let the sides of the trays down, but, not actually seen it done. Does anyone have any photos or ideas for how to mount the outboard vertically, outside the canopy?

Look forward to hearing any ideas.

Thanks for the reply. I had thought about that, but, worried about the flex of having a leg which would have to be raised up from the towball to allow the engine to be high enough off the road. Also, it'd be bulky to carry aroound in the back of the ute in other situations.

A punt ? At 12.5 feet I would recommend Savage Snipe

Had one for years and fished offshore Halby Bank at Exmouth, easy to beach launch and  15 plenty powerful enough so a 20 would be brilliant.....Boat on rack on cruiser with rollers at the back and motor mounted and locked to a swing away to allow tail gate access

I already have the punt.

I already have the punt. It'll be going on the top of the canopy for the cruiser. It currently has a 15 hp Mariner on the back which is starting to show its age. It went well when I used to live at Point Samson, though when battling the tide through a narrow creek it felt like a few more horsepower would be beneficial, hence the upgrade to the 20hp.

Its my intention to go the swing-away route, I'm just keen to see any designs that people have so that I can start fabricating it.
