I was wondering if any of you guys have seen Stripy Trumpeter here in Perth. They are an amazing fighting fish an make red empower an barra tast like mullet. We used to fish for them off the cont shelf for years.they fight like shark an can easily break at 20kg rod if you catch an old daddy one.

Lol stripes are large fish
Lol stripes are large fish mate.. I've never caught a grand daddy sadly most I ever saw on long lines were 10-15kg .
As for pics, I have a few vids on YouTube from back then... I'll find em fr ya
If you type in southen Tasmania storm force cray fishing. That's one boat I worked on.. Called Tasman Enterprize. 128 foot cray boat.
Otherone is called port davey bound by a band called trawl dogs. My skipper an his mate did it lol. The guy u see in vid is not me but I worked on that boat off that area of west coast of Tasmania.
I wouldn't cal it giant, I said I ad to cut line to avoid my trion breaking. But the line snapped before I could :)
Besides a bream is tiny compared to a stripey

Say trumpeter over here and
Say trumpeter over here and most blokes think of an annoying little bait stealer who can make good live mulloway bait. The Striped Trumpeter (or Tassie, as we used to call them), was found only as far up as the far south coast in NSW, but not common, even way back--never heard of them over here. or even off SA, for that matter. Seemed to be confined to Tasmania/far south NSW and Bass Strait. Glad to be enlightened other wise --although I believe they also catch them in the far south of NZ, Fjordland/Stewart Island.

Yes Jody, I have heard of the deep sea guys fishing out of Albany catching them on occasions.

If you want to see a vid i will link, they are insane fighting fish. In Tassie people very jelously guard their locations as they are not always findable.. They are hugely expencive in shops.
Sorry bout the double dutch text somrtimes. Seems my notepad is really playing up an changes text as i type.
www.youtube.com/watch this is what we call Stripeys in Tasmania. Now I know theres fish here ALOT bigger, but these are soem the single most prised eating fish you can get :)

they are deep runners down
they are deep runners down to 400-1000 feet i have heard but ive only ever caught em down to 300. Which is the long line depth we work at.
Commercially i forget the quota now as it has been years. But rec fish... 4-8 i think...
If anyone is ever after a fishing holi to tasmania i highly highly recomend the east coast of tss an south called eagle hawk neck. To of most amazing deep runner locations.
If anyone ever goes feel free to msg me i can stear you in right directions.
