Cattle warning
Anyone thinking of travelling at night north of Billabong should seriously consider doing that stretch in daylight. I did a run up to the Blowhole road yesterday afternoon and saw at least 40 cattle grazing on the roadside and one of the tow truck drivers had to go down the other side of Wooramel in the early hours to pick a vehicle up that had collected a roo and he said that he couldn't get over 80km until 70km south of Carnarvon and had to back off again 30km north of Wooramel because of cattle and roos on the road.
The truck he was driving has brilliant lights but even they weren't good enough to pick up some of the cows.
I certainly don't want to have to drive down and pick up another fishwrecked member's car after they have collected an animal, its not a nice way to meet people.

Run off
Where the water has run off the bitumen it has been enough to germinate the seeds on the roadside and this has attracted the cattle in droves
With most of them being dark brown in colour they are nearly impossible to spot at night and if you are towing something bloody hard to miss.

Never at night
I have done 5 trips to Quobba in recent years and would never travel at night. Every trip we have seen the reselts of cars hitting livestock/roos.
When we took the boat to Coral Bay stayed overnight at the overlander. Cost $50 for the Donger and had a good nights rest. Arrived Coral Bay about mid day well refreshed and ready to fish.
Just not worth the risk

Times
They are there all day and night but nights are the worst because you cannot see the buggers,
Goats bounce off, roos do some damage if you don't have a good roobar but cattle stuff everything completely

Just drove back from Exmouth
Just drove back from Exmouth a couple of days ago and as John said there was livestock everywhere from Exmouth to North of Gero.
Also went through a road block south of Carnarvon where the police were checking licences and regos and fisheries checking fish fillets.
