cervantes tractors for beach retrival

Just a shout out to any cervantes members who have access to a tractor.  I may be bringing my boat up for a weekend in Feb.  Not 100% sure yet if we'll be fishing (weather dependant) and whilst i have a 4wd the trailer isnt set for beach retrival.

If anyone has access to a tractor there, can you pm me?

Its not the launch that comcerns me.  I have seen a bigger heavier boat than mine launched using a commodore ute.  That was retrieved with a prearranged tractor.  My concern is that if i need to disconnect the trailer i only have a standard jockey wheel on it.

Would be cheaper to buy drop down wheel and spare hub than to get a tractor haha!

You would be able to launch and retieve in virtually no water wouldnt you ?

Agree easy up there to launch  if it's still like it was at xmas there was a nice drop off that made launching the boat easy and the sand is hard pretty much all year round seen a 7mplus Ali launch up there piss easy

Technique

When retrieving, before you stop backing up kink the trailer. So when you take off you are only pulling one side of the trailer out breaking the suction rather than trying to rip both sides out at once.
It will pop straight out, just don't piss around too long!

Ideally yes, as said above

Wed, 2016-01-20 06:18

Ideally yes, as said above when I've launched/retrieved from there, there has been a little drop off just back from the shore line so you haven't had to get too far back putting the wheels in the water. That being said keep a good eye on when the hull it is coming out and onto the trailer, if the trailer is sitting high which it probably will when doing this. Anything sticking out from the hull can catch on trailer due to the steep angle, happened to me once. Going flat stick on the which felt in load up a bit, thought it's hitting sand so went harder not wanting to mess around. Next thing you know the actual S hook from cable snapped. Cable went across my back as a fulcrum, pivots off me and put what was left of the hook and cable through the rear side window of the car. Didn't even know what happened it was that fast, lucky the hook did get me.
Just something to be mindful of.

Use my Ali tracks Randall, they work a treat in Gnaraloo. Looks very similar from the pics I see beach wise.

Tue, 2016-01-19 19:52

I launch there all the time Randall, never had a problem there retrieving my boat. Just pick the rite section of beach to retrieve your boat so that your trailer wheels don't go over the drop off and you will be fine. Also theres always other 4x4's there who could give you a snatch out if need be, just byo snatch strap.

Beach launch

Wed, 2016-01-20 05:40

And retrieve all the time in Broome seen heaps of people come unstuck at entrance point by leaving the car running while getting the boat on vibration of the motor slowly sinks the car so we would turn the car of then like old mate said eithe kink the trailer or reverse slightly before going forward to breake the suction few little tips can make all the difference nothing worse than a stuck car on an incoming 10m tide and your at the low tide mark . Lost count of the amount of cars I saw go under in 25 years in Broome but never lost one myself .

Cheers.  I dint even leave my car running on a cement ramp.  Being a manual i always think if i leave it running in neutral the park brake will give way and the picture of the result will end up as a boat ramp fail on social media!  Always leave in gear and turn the motor off!

Never thought about the trailer kink. Great idea.

In recent weeks I have been beach launching my 6m f/glass centre console in Safety bay (just around from Penguin Island). Low range has always done it for me though the beach is very compacted.

 I launch a 22ft Trophy there

Wed, 2016-01-20 11:44

I launch a 22ft Trophy there all the time with a stock standard 4x4 Ranger. Never had an issue, hardly even engage 4x4 most of the time. Head a few hundred metres north of the point and drive along until the drop off suits your boat/trailer. Just don't back the trailer over the edge, and be quick. Always someone there to give you a hand if you get stuck.

Depending on how close the drop off is you can always reverse up a bit if the trailer has sunk to break the vacuum

Probably just head out wide from ocean reef or two rocks.
