you need to perform the name

Wed, 2013-07-24 13:33

you need to perform the name change over many beers.  some also say to keep the original name somewhere on the boat.  usually really small font near or below the water line, or inside the gunnels.....

personally I'd just do it over a beer or 10 with mates...

Not superstitious at all but have a respect for the sea. Google boat renaming ceremony and you have to pray/praise the 4 winds. It actually is a little fun and traditional, so why not!!

e ontly time that a boats name would be changed was just as it

Passed over the equator. So I guess that's out and it's beer

To the rescue. It seems like a crime but you should pour one

Over the bow. But no need to waste a cooper's, use the mid strength that

Someone left in the fridge.

No probs with renaming a boat

Wed, 2013-07-24 18:06

my current boat was renamed after I upgraded to a new 4 stroke on the back, gave it a once over with polish etc and then the new stickers.

Almost like a new boat..

Notify

Notify DoT when you change the name so they can update their records and make it easier for sea rescue groups to trace ownership if you are in trouble because most groups just work on the boat name not rego number

Change the name and get it

Fri, 2013-07-26 15:09

Change the name and get it blessed by a priest.

Either church or Mission to Seafarers.

you mightnt be superstitous but ive been at sea long enough to know that just good seamanship isnt always enough, so eliminate bad luck when you can i say!

 after 35plus years at sea

Fri, 2013-08-16 18:43

after 35plus years at sea nearly every ship i have been on has had at least 3 or 4 names.the only ceremony they ever have is the original naming one.in all that time have never sailed on one that was considered "unlucky".i think this is another one of those so called legends thought up by a land based person, because it is certainly not a sea going one.

changing names

Fri, 2013-08-16 19:53

I followed this ceremony when I named my new boat for the first time urinated of the bow then the stern sat on the boat in the boat port and drank 6 cans of beer and imagined duhies , all good so far except wifey complained about the stink in the boat port, also had to do an exorcism after I found wifey had left banana boat sunscreen on the boat
