Simrad Evo 3 12 inch is a great unit. I have a 9 inch as a combo and they are very easy to use and set up.
If you don't need all the functions save some coin the Lowrance carbon are a great buy on sale at the moment.
I have simrad evo 1 which I use as a plotter. I also have raymarine Axiom.
I like the simrad more, I also had an Evo 3 and it was slightly better than the Evo 1 in reference to plotter only.
The trouble with Simrad is if you buy the NSS units you are paying for a howle lot more than just a plotter but this goes for most brands now. I'd be looking for a used Evo 2 if you just want a plotter. There were plenty around when the Evo 3 was released. I lot of guys wanted to upgrade..

I had the NSS evo2 it was very user friendly extremely easy to navigate around I used it as a dedicated GPS and used the instrument readings aswell.
