Quite a stunning looking fish underwater and an ultimate predator of small fish, pity we only occasionally get them on the west coast. I've caught two in a couple of decades but on the plate they are the bees knees..
Hopefully get to catch some in your neck of the woods when we get there next month
Thanks for watching guys. The John dory here get quite alot bigger than this speciman. Its always a welcome site seeing dolphins out on the water, and every single time they will swim along with you, theyre so playful
had the privelage one day of a super pod, im guessing numbers were 1000 plus about 20 nm out from rocko. certainly was tempted to jump in and get some footage of them .
They are very common around jettys here, I remember as kid seeing one swimming around, catching a spray of some kind, putting it on a hook and dropping it down infront of the dory and it got eaten right away, it was awesome
You put out a live yellowtail under a Bobby float on a hand line. Any of the wharves in the lower part of the harbour would produce them. Found a school of them once off Cronulla Point spearfishing, got 8 iirc, up to 4lb 12 oz., which would translate to about 2.4 kg.

Used to get the occasional dory off the Busselton Jetty. Was fairly rare though

Used to fish for them in Sydney Harbour.

2.4kg is a good sized John Dory! We usually use livebaits set hard on the bottom
