Dumb question here on our recent trip to Gnaraloo my mate caught a 12kg chinaman what great fight it gave him he released it successfully after our other mate on board told us they no good eating and are poisonous????

They aren't 'poisonous' like a blowfish.
The problem is what they have been feeding on like hard corals, and from this Cigutera toxins.
My fishing book safe to eat in moderate quantities, but in truth it isn't worth it as they are a great sport fish.

Pretty sure it's only mainly a problem on the east coast.. Don't think we suffer from ciguatera poisoning on the west coast.
Have eaten a few chinamans before and had no probs
