Chipping Toyota D4D Hilux

G'Day Guys

Looking for some advice please. My son has recently acquired a D4D 2012 Hilux and is looking to chip it and drop a new exhaust on to get some more power. I have had a bit of a search but most comments seem to be a couple or 3 yeras old. Is there any more current feedback on who can provide these services and if anyone has had it done, were they happy and what was the outcome. Any advice or comments welcome especially on providers and estimated costs.

cheers

I went down that path with a hilux a year ago. Diesel Power unit through Safari Turbos.

For exhaust I did quite a bit of research and just ended up going with the muffler delete.

Also put a windbooster on and that made it a lot more responsive as well.

just be mindful on warranty

just be mindful on warranty (if thats important/relevant to you) - i had one on my last 200 series and toyota made it very clear they would void warranty on any issues relating to fuel/electrics and premature engine wear - what i would say is power and torque up yes but fuel consumption up too - no free kicks!
oil consumption up as well but that was true for all early 200 series hehe!! -towing boat Perth to exmouth 4 litres, boy i was happy when i traded that one in!

Fuel Economy

Fri, 2015-05-08 15:20

Digressing a bit from the primary question. What sort of fuel economy did you get in the 200 series? I have a petrol 200 series (2013) and have a consumption of 22/100 when going up North. Never intended to tow when I first purchased, hence petrol but pleased the consumption is not a lot higher.

hi Peko
in my 07 200s i was getting 18lt per 100km pre-chip (towing 3t), post chip it was definately more - probably closer to 20 - that said (and to be fair) i am sure i travelled faster on say the hills through Northhampton than i would have pre-chip. My current 200s (2010) is non chipped (but have done exhaust cats back) and i get 17-18 pretty consistently
If your getting 22/100 thats pretty good considering what your set-up would weigh all up!

One thing I forget to mention that is significant I need to run premium petrol. The higher output 4.6litre V8's need the premium to give optimum performance and I've done the numbers more than once and the extra performance/economy pays for the variable.

Did cat back make much of a difference on the 200? Just bought a 2013 altitude and wanting a bit more growl without losing factory warrenty.

diesel chips make a world of

Sat, 2015-05-09 21:56

diesel chips make a world of difference aslong as you dont get a cheapy $100 job off ebay, if you want a proper tune that wont just raise the fuel pressure to your injectors, your looking at about $800-$1200. chipping isnt really worth it without having a good filter like a bcm or k&n and an exhaust to let it breathe properly. probably best to jump on the 4wd forums like 4wdaction and the likes...heeps of info there.

ive got a cheapy ebay chip in mine, they do make a difference but nowhere near what they claim-and theyre not as safe as an ecu tune, im thinking about having a proper tune done to go with my 3" exhaust and FMIC upgrade + k&n. but im jobless atm and will more than likely need to upgrade by then end of the year to a 4x4 wagon or dual cab due to arrival of our first not too far away :)

but all the info youve read on hiluxs that are several years old will still apply. the d4d 3.0Ls have been in the hiluxs for about 7 or 8 years now i think.

there plug and play chips like the DP chip and steinbauer or you can go to United Fuel Injection,  Turbo Tech, Diesel Fuel Injection, Total Fuel Injection, and A1 Diesel and Injection.

Edit: Forgot to mention ECUwest and possibly CRISPMODS done thru daniel at mantapro exhausts in belmont

Gturbo

Do a search on Gturbo - getting good numbers out of D4D motors. I run his upgraded turbo and Unichip on a 100 series turbo diesel - well worth the spend

Check out his facebook page for dyno results and he also advertises on gumtree
