The Christening

Met up with SuperPeg & Callum24 for a lure session this morning. We only had a couple of hours together because there were other places we needed to be but the conditions looked good & I just picked up my new Stradic from Oceanside yesterday so was keen to go test it out. It was fairly quiet with only one fish landed between the three of us, fortunately, for me. So this was my first fish on the combo & I'm hoping it's a sign of things to come. Big thanks to SuperPeg for braving the swell & landing it for me.

Thanks Justo82, the Stradic did well, I've got a couple of others that I use for bream fishing so I knew it was going to be good. I just hope it stands up to the hammering by waves it's going to get in this style of fishing. The 7.5kg fireline I loaded it with is a little stiff & it's making my casting distance suffer but that should get better as the line wears in, if it doesn't I'll just put my usual power-pro on it.

Thanks Batty, pretty happy with it as a first fish on this reel. I've had the rod for a couple of months now but it's the biggest tailor I've landed on it to.

Wasn't the Zing mate, it hasn't arrived yet. Thought it would be here yesterday but it's only just been sent today, should have it by Friday though. This was just the FWA 9ft that I already had matched up to a new 5000FJ. The FJ got it's first fish & first hit by a sand filled wave so it's offically christened in my books. Was just throwing metal.

Nice work mate. Love it when a new combo gets a solid workout to prove its worth...well, my first tailor on my current setup was a fair bit smaller than yours but was still a good feeling. Hopefully I'll have my first on lures soon enough.

Thanks Justin. Wasn't a bad fight but to be honest I was calling it for 40-45cm before I saw it. It just didn't go as hard as most of the 50's I've caught. We were pretty surprised when it washed up to see a fish that was clearly going to be over 50.
Your first on lures is just around the corner mate, just keep at it.

I should mention that the fish was released to fight another day to. I never keep any over the 50cm mark & only ever keep the occasional one under 45cm as bait.
