we were at anchor fishing while these yaghts were within 5 metres of the bow of the boat  2 did not change their course we had right of way as they came out of the marina we were fishing just north of burns rocks in about 9 metres of water

if you were anchored

then yeah, it sounds as though they were too close.

But if you were not anchored, you have to make sure you avoid the yatch as you are in a powered (motor driven) vehicle and they are not. Hence why I was trying to clarify.

Give them a phone call and ask, just to clarify it,I believe that since you were anchored  and as long as it was not a designated channel they must give you a clear distance and to go that close is not on,Yatching people think that they have right of way at all times ,but not in this situation? had it been divers with a flag up they must cut speed and pass at a safe distance, and as yachts do not make a lot of noise under way and can fairly move they could just as easily hit a diver  jersey
