Closest boat launching ramp/location to Steep Point
Submitted by Sails4me on Tue, 2010-11-09 21:00
Hey guys
Heading up to Shark Bay on Firday, and am keen to see if we can take the boat out to Steep Point. Could you please advise if there are any launching facilities near to Steep Point, or if we have to make the long treck out from Denham. Also how far is it from Denham to Steep Point via boat (nautical miles)?
Anyone else up there for the next week from Friday, send me a pm if you are keen for a catch up and fish.
Cheers
Sails

you can beach launch at
you can beach launch at steep but the closest is denham. my guess at distance would be between 15 and 20 nm. end of dirk hartog is about 40nm and turtle bay is 36. not too sure how you will go there this time of year as it gets quite windy and you might not be able to get out at all.
good luck

What size boat?
I wouldn't take more than a 5m Ali rig into Steep Point for a beach launch,as the track will take its toil on trailer.

Sails4me ,if you are staying in Denham ,then launch from Denham and go across to steep point in the boat .
It will take you a lot less time and trouble than towing your boat around to the beach only launching at the point .
As "on the level" has said .......a lot of trailers don't survive the trip .

Cheers for the info
Thanks heaps guys for confirming what I thought was the situation. The weather might be looking pretty good for this time of year for next week, so we might be able to venture out far and wide!!!
We have some spots in close, and will give the bent pin a crack for some pinkies and Mulloway. Hopefully the salt flats will turn up a jumbo Tailor, as that is what I really want to hook up with.
Cheers

Make sure you check the tides as an incomming tide with the wind from the south make some nasty short sharp waves making the crossing uncomfortable.
