Cockburn Sound this Saturday
Submitted by joycey on Tue, 2012-07-17 20:09
Hi guys,
I am a new boat owner ( 5.3m boat ) and planning to head out in Cockburn Sound this Saturday for the first time after some squid.
I'd be grateful for your opinions on whether the forecast conditions look good, they seem ok to me.
I notice there is a reasonable swell but I presume this is not so much an issue within the Sound.
Any tips on how and where to go squidding much appreciated!
Cheers.

Looks good
Yeah Sat looks good for the sound. I will be out there showing a mate around a few spots. Only thing i can suggest is use a propper boat ramp ( not one on the beach ) with a large swell it can be very tricky to launch and retieve your boat.
If you launch at Point Perron be carefull going under the Garden Island Bridge (coat hanger) Waves can lift up and break in this area.
Cheers Grant .

Yep , swell doesnt really
Yep , swell doesnt really affect the sound and easterly is the best wind. The swell will only push through the big bridge as allready stated, should be a nice day and lots of squid to be caught!
Get out there !

In between woodmans point and carnac island is a pretty reliable spot for squid and kgw, only a couple mins from woodies boat ramp too. I might see you guys out there :)
