Cocos Island Fishing Charters?

 Gday Everyone ,

Heading to Cocos Island in October /November and looking to do some Popping ,Jigging and Sportfishing . Never been but the place looks the goods.

How ever I cant find a charter to go on . I would have thought a place like that would have had a dedicated Fishing Charter ?Anyone know why?

The visitor center siad to get hold of local and head out .

Has anyone been and had the same thing? Anyone recomend a skipper that knows their stuff over there? I dont mind forking out decent money for a good boat and skipper not just some local looking to make a quick buck. I did that in Fiji and well...

Enjoy some of the great info on here

Thanks for your input .

No where near enough tourism

to support a charter, even Christmas Island was a struggle until a member on here made some arrangements with a local for me (thanks again Travis).  Heaps of lagoon fishing and jetty fishing accessible on Cocos with some huge GT around.

 You could try Geof's glass

You could try Geof's glass bottom boat, but I'm not sure if he is on island at the moment. As said above, the jetties are definitely worth a try

Went with a local

Was 20 years ago but went up and was able to organise a couple of trips out through locals on small tinnys but maybe try emailing the tourist office or shire and see what you can get.

As far as the fishing we never went far off the island and hooked several marlin but landed 0, caught heaps of other fish, I do remeber that diving was pretty popular as you would expect on an atol and there was a charter boat for that that one of the boys went on and speared some nice fish but again long time ago and I only went snorling from shore which was pretty good.

If you are into it also take a surfboard there is a pretty nice break up there and kitesurfing is well set up there now.

Best of luck looking forward to some pics!!

None there

I went there around 2 years ago and there were no charters and as much as we tried we couldn't find anyone interested in taking us out. There are no large boats there only tinnies really. Geoff was off the island when we were there. We were told Ray (runs some accommodation) might take us out, but unless you are staying with him he is not interested. It is a great place and still worth the visit even without boat fishing. We hooked some huge GTs on the jetty at the far end of the island, but they only play with you until they weave your line around the pilons.

It's no fun trying to lift

It's no fun trying to lift them up the side of the jetty either. I didn't think about a net or gaff until I dropped a decent sized GT lifting it out of the water by the leader.

Wow! Was just having a good look via Google earth, the fishing would have to be insane there. Surely a market just waiting to be opened up?

Both Christmas and Cocos are amazing

Fri, 2017-09-01 09:29

Such a shame so few people visit .......we loved every minute, caught my first wahoo within minutes of leaving the ramp at Christmas, got done like a dinner on a huge doggy over one of the pinnacles and snorkelled with the massive GT's and reef sharks at the cleaning station.  Internet is poor, we do have a fishwrecked member there and he arranged for a mate from the water board to take me out, the charter on Christmas couldn't care less but the dive operator is brilliant.  Cocos fishing simply hasn't been tapped, would love to have a decent 6 metre boat there but it is mostly only tinnies for the locals. Hire a canoe and fish the lagoon as it is teeming with fish !
