Combo for perth Mackeral season
Well done on your first boat, going a lever drag combo is perfect for trolling as you can preset the drag for trolling strikes and the lever drag is very easy to apply more or less pressure on the hooked fish.
We have some great combos here for around the $199 mark that are very suitable for trolling and can be used at a later date for bottom bouncing if you so wished.
Other gear needed to get the outfit ready to use is a Richter windon leader around the 100lb, Superflex single stand wire 124lb and a selection of lures. Halco 190XDD deepdivers in the red neck, pilchard and green gold being our prefered colours. The other standout for metro mackys this season for us was the Rapala X-Rap deepdivers 20 & 30 in the pilchard colour.
If you want anymore info then drop us a PM, happy to help.

I think if your going to
I think if your going to troll a cheap overhead is all thats required lever drag as mentioned, I use 3 or 4 rods usually 2 are spining reels just because I am not gonna buy extra overheads for trolling around the metro. Mono is better for trolling but if I have braid on a reel I just use a long shock leader 10m or more and always a wire trace. Personally I wouldnt use less than 15gk line because I have my drag set fairly hard to set the hook as the mackie takes the lure.
I just recently purchased 2 horizontal rod holders off ebay that act as a basic outrigger using the length of the rod to spread the lure.
Make your own or buy a cheap teaser off ebay, its gonna help.
I also made up a few lanyards to clip onto the reels so I dont lose anything overboard.
hope we have another great season, see you out there
