comments? fin nor marquesa jigging reel

hi,  currently addicted, like many- to demersal jigging, got plenty of average  to ok gear but recently got a nice rod so looking for a suitable reel, want to run 40/50lb  interested in these fin nors marquesa,

im thinking i like the faster retrieve with your empty jigs ready for another drop,

retrieve listed at somethig like 51 inches for the 20 size.  always buy shimano, daiwa etc,       so thanks for your thoughts fellas.

I use the MA20 for bottom bouncing but havent jigged with it as yet.  As a reel I think its considerably better than than what you can buy from shimano/diawa for the same money($299).  I have caught plenty of sambos up 25kg on mine since I have had it (almost a year) and it holds up fine with a nice smooth drag and good cranking power even with a high retrieve ratio due to handle length and ergonomics.

the 20 fits a heap of 50lb braid on it so you could possibly go smaller like a 16 if you prefer but just check that the 16 will give you enough drag for what you want.  The 20 states 20kg of drag from memory but I think the 16 has less, worth looking into

The JM reels are actually

Thu, 2012-07-19 15:57

The JM reels are actually quite "slow" compared to some other compact overheads. The JM PE3 or PE4 are 76cm/crank. The Marquesa M20T is 130cm/crank (realllly fast). Smaller marquesas are 109cm/crank and the two speed low gears are 66cm/crank. Small talicas 97cm, large talicas 104cm. TLD 15's are 76cm, 20/25 are 81cm. TLD two speeds are 97cm on high gear. Saltist LD's are 104cm I think?

Keep in mind anypuddle that faster reels require more effort to pull up the same weight (but you're winding less cranks of the handle). Unlikely a problem with most jigs, but can factor in if you're running heavy sinkers. Doesnt matter too much having a fast reel while fight the fish as you should be using the rod to pump and wind anyways.

For demersal jigging, the M20T would personally be heavier than I'd prefer to run. The heavier the reel, the harder it is to finesse, and the more effort it is jigging 6hrs+ a day. (Though, prefer spin reels for demersal jigging, and overheads for faster jigging). The 12 or 16 sizes are a bit lighter though. Max 10kg drag, but do you really need more than that for 50lb? What rod are you wanting to run it on? Getting above 40lb or so, the rods start being less suited to jigging 150g and below demersal jigs IMO.

Jigging for sambos or deep drop is a diff story though.

Jigging Master make as

Thu, 2012-07-19 13:21

Jigging Master make as Sherbert mentioned a PE3 all the way to PE10 Powerspell reel. The PE 4 reel which is a nice reel to jig with runs about 23kg worth of effective drag. Its a little pocket rocket and will fit about 300m of good quality 50lb, Otherwise the PE 6 is a broader and taller reel pushing just shy of 30kg worth of drag. These reels do attract a higher price because of the high quality of these reels but well worth it. Another option would be the American made Avets.

Sat, 2012-07-21 08:08

I have the marquesa 20, it quite heavy and bulky but I had it pre serviced befor its first use and the drag very smooth. sometimes i dont notice when line is peeling off it. I use it for jigging knife jigs and have caught GT's and brassy trevs to 20kg+ and a few large spanish ect. so if you dont mind working out the guns give it a go

Marquesa 16

I recentley bought this reel, nearly went for the 20 due to the higher drag but didn't want to big a reel, 10kg of drag on this reel, how much do you need??? Just out of interest with 10kg drag locked down, what strength line would it break? Ive never really been close to testing a lot of my tackle yet. Only been properly smoked from two rocks once on 20lb fins, reel was nearly on fire LOL

Hi.Don't know about those

Sun, 2012-07-22 09:48

Hi.

Don't know about those chinee reels. never had one. I'll form an opinion in 5 or ten yrs time...

But think twice about any Avet.. for jigging.(I have had a couple) they only have  AR dog. no bearing.

and you get a little handle\spool backwind on every stroke In the smaller range.

Annoyed me..

Plus only around 8 or 9lb MAX drag b4 starting to bind the spool.

My SX with 15lb nylon is fine on 5 or 6lb. but I wouldn't go over 20lb line\8lb drag on them.

I've ordered a ceramic bearing kit for it. see if that'll help.

Look at the Saltiga's in that price range. they smooth and light.and proven.

For small. with a monster drag. check out the Accurate. My 870's heaven on a stick.

Oh.

I don't know about in this country. But Boca Bearings in States.Do ceramic bearings. Individually and full kit form.

For most reels on market.

I.E.Saltiga50 2spd lever kit. $89.  Spool bearings for my Daiwa SW203 and black Sheep 250 $29 pr.

For sea fishing they great. NO rust. and only one drop of red or whatever. occasionally.

I'm fitting to all my reels as I go along. Well worth the money..

My Nephew works there. I get at cost..Shhhhhh.

ma 20 2 speeg

Tue, 2012-10-09 21:02

Gotta ma 20 2 speed been shit hot so far plenty of balls , smooth drag and the 2 speed is suprisingly handy just put it on low ratio and no barotrauma yet I looked at avets aswell but the anti reverse really turned me off its just not good enough when compared to other reels in that price range.
