Compost Worms as bait?

Hey

Anyone used compost worms as bait? - we're targeting whiting, herring and tailor from jetties - whattya reckon?

Cheers

Tim

When i was younger living with the parents in Burswood id use earthworms in the river. Pretty deadly on the bream so i cant see them being bad for herring and whiting. Tailor i always seem to do better on mulies or lures

Thanks - knew the bream like

Thanks - knew the bream like them - but unfortunately I consider anything that lives in the river too toxic to eat.  Oh well - gonna try them tonight.  If they work then I have my own self renewing supply of bait :-).

I guess - but the prawn doesn't last long either - and its not the cheapest... :-)

We have a pretty healthy worm farm so lots of free worms

worms ok sometimes

Have used them often for whiting but find they dont last long in real salty water.

They can be a good bait in the river for bream, whiting, flaties etc.

I once dug out my fattest and longest worms from my wormfarm.

After half a dozen trips to the ocean I left the poor buggers to what they do best!!!!

Well I tried them - the fish

Well I tried them - the fish went for them but didn't hook anything - mind you didn't look specifically for big fat ones - might try that next time.

So prawn it still is at the moment.

Is squid worth it?

I tried chicken but it doesn't seem popular with the metro fish - the rural herrings love it...

My experience is that compost

My experience is that compost worms are ok for lake fishing and perhaps slow flowing river fishing, but not for ocean fishing. As someone mentioned the salt sea water kills them more quickly, thus making them less attractive to ocean fish. Use salt water bait for salt water fish. Fresh water fishing is more akin to worms. Try to keep bait more aligned with the natural diet of fish.
