I have squid fished a reasonable amount but not as much as others, on high tide, low tide, full moon, no moon, morning, noon and night for squid.
The things that seem to affect catch rates in order are:
- early morning or late Arvo. Mid day much harder.
- clean water. When murky, we have struggled.
Have not seen a consistent trend with the other factors. Others who squid more may have?

Thats the main affects i have
Thats the main affects i have had aswell, Early morning right before sunrise and just after always brings up the squid, so does just before sunset and just after.
Colors have payed a massive part as well, mostly every day there is a new favourite color, usually the pink or brown tho.
Always have one or two expensive jigs, as they do work a lot better. Aslong as the ground is patchy with weed and sand you have a pretty certain chance you will catch squid.
Hope that helps a bit nick.

HAHA,
having said all of that throw all of those factors out the window when drifting the weed beds down here in Geo bay.
Handline and any old jig you can find and bag out, that easy

you say more expensive jigs are better
but i tend to disagree i use the little size 2.0 cheapy jigs in multi colour, pink and orange they work a treat!

if the squid are there they
if the squid are there they will take anything in pretty much any color, but when they're picky the good jigs really do pay off.
