Coral Bay afternoon tiger.

I have decided to remove the origional post.
Like most have mentioned it was just a bit of fun and no harm done.
But the fact is any media about sharks (good or bad) in Coral Bay is bad for tourisum as a whole.
Unfortunately some people are that narrow-minded that seeing this may make them avoid Coral Bay.
I know everyone on here is smarter than that and that is why I origionally just posted a couple of photos for this fourm to enjoy.
But I dont want the media getting any more infomation on the matter so I have decided to remove them.
We have been inundated by phone calls by the media but have just said we know nothimng about it.
The story in the paper was positive (and very funny) but is still not good for tourisum in Coral Bay.

Cool pics (except for the horizontal)
That would have been a buzz skull-dragging that bad boy onto the beach.

ha-would have been a laugh!
but have a yarn with the pilots who do the manta spotting along there-you may be surprised at how frequently they are seen along there close-ish to the beach.
But they seem to avoid people, taking a wide berth around the manta swimmers etc.

This got a write-up in The
This got a write-up in The Sunday Times, p.23 under the heading "Fisherman fight to save potential foe"
They talk up how the brave fishermen 'risked their lives' to 'rescue' this 'accidentally caught' shark, in a time when 'calls mount for a cull'. I think they site the description from the youtube clip for all this info. There's almost no way your going to catch a shark of that size accidentally. Not having a go, just think it's ridiculous that a) Whoever posted it on youtube would claim it was caught accidentally (what are you lying for?) and b) The paper/public might believe that. I also hate the fact that the papers have tried to turn this into a "look, these people are against shark culling and you should be too." Sorry, just shits me that media is so manipulated and driven by opinion instead of presenting facts, and that (thousands, millions of?) people actually beleive everything they read. Rant over!
Found this article which is pretty much the same as the Sunday times one: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/national/coral-bay-fishermen-risk-their-lives-to-save-shark-at-mauds-landing/story-fnii5thm-1226778141879

agree with you versus
In 1984 , me and a pommy mate put a set line in of Mauds Landing Coral Bay and hooked a 14ft tiger , we towed it back to the then Coral Bay ramp and it was so heavy we couldn't move it when we had it on the beach , we ended up winching it onto the boat trailer and took it up to the gantry at the pub the publican said it didn't have a set of scales to weight it , we said is it ok if we get it on the gantry and get some photos which he said was ok, we pulled it up and got some photos as did the East Freo footy team that were there on there end of season footy trip , it was about then 2 turtles dropped out of the tiger and I thought gee what have we done , we ended up cutting the jaws out then towing it out to sea , I felt terrible and would never do something like that again it was a total waste of a great animal and changed my thinking forever

Just saw an ad for it, will
Just saw an ad for it, (*edit, was on 10 news, for about 12 seconds). Yeh I don't care if people want to catch sharks, what worries me is that many people's opinions ( i.e. on culling) are driven by what they see in the media, and when the media only presents the angle they want people to see, then there's gonna be a whole lot of misinformed opinions. Unfortunately, public opinion/pressure is sometimes enough for bad (or forced) decisions being made by people in power (fisheries, pollies etc) who are worried about keeping their jobs.

Tourist posted the video.
I was not involved in the catching, just had to help release because everyone was just standing around looking at it.
Cardinal: No one in coral bay said a thing to media, they came up with it all.
Drifta: Sorry if the release was not up to your hgh standard, but it was fresh enougth no there was no need to swim it.
No one was trying to get on TV we where just having a bit of fun.

Mate all I was saying is that
Mate all I was saying is that fins don't work that great on dry land, dragging it into deeper water by the tail would've been a quicker an easier release and avoided video footage of a shark rolling around in the wash ending up on the news. Not a good look for fishing especially at this time when the 'tree huggers' are upset about the potential cull and mistreatment of sharks.
Looks like the guy with dreads had the right idea until the guy in red shorts got involved.
Either way it's a good catch and would've been some fun good on ya for jumping in and helping with the release, even if your mr red shorts :)

Guy in the red shorts.
Guy in the red shorts. Me......
Might not be the best way, just how I allways do it with fresh sharks, Just like to be on the right side of dry land just incase it decides to take off. Have released many sharks this way, normally by myself and normally works fine. Just was not counting on somone putting a video of it on tv, and being freely critiqued by anyone. So generally put my safety before a good looking release. I have seen these things take turtle off the beach, so if they do find a bit of energy they move around ok on dry land.

No problem
No problem for me that you guy's had a bit of fun catching a big shark like that and released it as well.
The sad thing is someone else gave the footage ( or posted on youtube ) to the media, and they just made up a whole lot of bullshit. Just read some of the comments to see they got the reaction they wanted.
I hate the media, they twist everything or just make up thier own shit to get a story headlined .

Ironically they've twisted
Ironically they've twisted the story in favour of the fisho's saying they risked their lives to rescue it etc etc. But yeh could just as easily have been turned the other way to make them look bad. Does posting stuff on youtube mean it becomes "free" copyright etc?

Apparently it does.
After seeing my shirt in the video they contacted us, I said I did not know about it, and because I feared what you said (twisting the story a bad way) I asked they not put the logo on TV but they said once its posted on youtube its fair game. We still dont know who posted the video, was not a local so we assume a touris that was there. I know I put the photos on this fourm, but generally most people on here are like minded and dont take it the wrong way, and can appreciate it for what it is.

-no one was hurt-everyone had
-no one was hurt
-everyone had fun
-the shark swam away unharmed
-Nobody tried to stab the shark or anything stupid
-Some clown posted the video online and the media made up some crap which by luck was a positive story
-The local lads had good clean fun just the same as I and many others who have lived there over the years did
plenty of other things in life to get wound up about that I cant see why this should be one of them

What the hell is the fus about
C&R clearly and no one harmed. Its a big shark and would take time to get back in, and safely. No issue here.

What Are they trying to say? I might be getting a bit on in time and Alzheimer's setting in?? but I still dont see it. All it is a a good clip showing C&R, and nothing wrong there.

imagine if it had been a 4m... No way they would have dragged it up that high, and the stories then would have been
