Coral bay help needed

 Hi guys,

heading to coral bay in a couple of months. Have fished there once before but struggled to find fish. Last time we headed out the south passage and went straight out sounding all the way out to the 100's. Found red throats and one coronation trout after quite a few days fishing. It was testing.  I am after advice on robbo's , goodies and reds. Not after anyone's spots or honey holes just some sound advice and direction to get us started.  We are going to do a bit of trawling as well for the usual suspects so any advice on depths would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nathan.

Fished coral bay from a boat

Thu, 2015-02-26 06:26

Fished coral bay from a boat twice; the first time it was on and we cleaned up - the second time we couldn't buy a fish. I've heard coral bay can be a bit like this - maybe you got unlucky?

If you are looking for lumps

If you are looking for lumps you wont find them further than a mile or 2 from the reef.

Look for schools.

See us at the tables and come have a chat, not going to give spots on here but if you let us know what you have been trying we can try and point you in the right direction. We can try and steer you towards paticular drops and ridges where yous should find some fish.

It can be a bit hit and miss up here, the best thing to do is sound as much ground as you can and have a drift on anything that pops up on the sounder. We find good new stuff every day even after 20+ years of making spots.

Some of the better spots dont show too much  and most stuff that does gets hammered. Robbo's and Reds are usallly found from 40-120m and good goldband start from about 90 to deep. Most of its fairly flat so you are looking for fish on the sounder not good looking ground. anything showing on or just off the bottom is worth a look, and if you find anything huge just make sure it's not moving (bait).

The best way to catch fish

The best way to catch fish there would be to follow simo as he kills the pig there.
