The tails on the second pic would indicate that bottoms is anything but flat. Intermittent long tails can be from boat roll, but also from patchy bottom you could call flat, but of different consistency, ie, nothing might be higher than 100mm off the bottom, but a mix of coral/sand /rock. And there is flat coral / limestone out there in all sort of depths you could run a stringline over, but it is riddled with crevices and hollowed out sections underneath which will give you the longer tails. Generally vg fish and cray ground.This will generally show a consistently long tail rather than intermittent, as in the above shots. Speaking as an old crayfisherman, I reckon you need a second echo to give you a true indication, but limited screen areas on these compared to what you used on a professsional boat make that less of an option.

How easy is are the menus etc? Non touch screen early HDS seemed to need a lot of menus to go through, is this the touch screen? Looking to replace my Garmin GPS, Garmin interface great but sounder (only used as backup) is not strong.
highly recommend it as a gps sounder combo, very good easy to use
menus took a little remembering but thats anything new and only use the menu for the more complex settings ie noise clutter etc rarely change these settings
once i got it set the way i wanted i just use the quick function buttons. sensitivity, zoom, bottom lock, scroll back, enter for marks. everything i need is one press just about.
gen 2 made it simpler to use.
i guess they call furuno the leader of the pack but iam pretty happy with the results iam getting with my lowrance and if you used it as a stand alone gps with the sounder as a backup then win win in my opinion.

From memory its about 12-13nm NW and in 14 fathoms. We used to fish it before GPS days and go on landmarks but been away to long to describe them, if I was out there I bet I could put you straight on top of it.

There is a map of the ocean off bunbury that everyone had a copy of that showed about 5 gravel patches. It was supposedly drawn by a surveyor named tom obrien and had bearings and distances on it. I used to fish these spots about 20 years ago.
About 4 or 5 years ago I got the map out and compared it with all the spots that we have dived. It turned put I have done a fair bit in these spots.I think the spot you are talking about is the one inside the blade coral.
Did you used to use a weight with grease on it to sample the bottom? Also did you fish it for fish or crays?
Used to drop shark net on it and would line fish it if we were passing over it. Mind you, this was around 45 plus years ago with a quick stint 13 years back when a mate asked me to show them how to run drop lines so spent a day in that area.

What do you mean struggling what's happening? Speed issue is most likely your transducer position.
Start from the beginning did you select your transducer model or select generic?
What transducer have you got?
is it clutter issues or loss of bottom ?
Need as much info as you can give ill check pallet number tomorrow can't remember exactly
any pics of issue would be good

I didnt set it up the guys at the shop did it with the install
Just doent seem to detect fish on the move but when stop stuff is visible.
