Crabbing Cockburn Sound
Submitted by smidsy on Sun, 2017-04-30 12:07
Hi All,
Before anyone runs for their favoute lynching pitchfork - I am aware that crabbing in the sound is illegal.
However, I live 5 mins from Woodman point, and the cut off is woodman point to carmac island.
The northside next to woodman point looks like a good crabbing spot - has anyone tried it ?
Also, if you get back to woodman point jetty and the fisheries check you out, would they believe that you caught them in a legal area, or would they seize your house & children for what they deem to be illegal crab ??

Info
Hi Smidsy,
Shop owner Ryan Thipthorp has been crabbing there for years and yes that area is good including into Owen Anchorage.
Providing you dont stop inside the Cockburn Sound line on the way home (keep on drivng back to the ramp) you can land the crabs.
Save you GPS track marks and if you need to (very rare, you can show them)

Be the same as catching
Be the same as catching snapper during the sound ban. Allowed to pass through with them on board but no stopping on the way.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Yep I was down that way looking for salmon this week, and noticed the crab drop nets and as it is shallow, there were blokes(google/snorkel) getting crabs. They were swimming alongside there dingy.
Hope that helps.
