Launching at Maylands

A few mates of mine launch at Maylands, then travel all the way downriver to Freo, then go out into the ocean to fish, was wondering if that is better than trailering your boat to Leeuwin, and launching from there, wondering if that would be quicker, but also wondering, if Melville water turns rough, it would be a long rough trip home until you get near the City, I live up in the Hills, what do you think guys?

Hey mal
Geez mate it must take them at least 2 hrs and god knows how much fuel to travel that distance. By car to Leewin is probably 1/2 max. I guess if time and fuel isn't an issue its fine but id be driving to leewin or woodies and extra 15 mins. Leewin is $12 ramp fee and woodies is free, alternately hillaries is $8. Drive me nuts chugging along in the river when o could be actually fishing.....just my opinion

i'd just pay the coin at leuwin, haven't been out from woodies before but it would be quicker getting out from there i'd imagine. like rugbynut says id go mad sticking to 5 knots in the river knowing i could be fishing.

Definitely Woodies. Plenty of ramps and good facilities. It flows very well launch and retrieve and the ramps are protected by the groyne. Only 10 mins to Garden Island as well.

I live in Foothills and travel.  Quicker to drive to Woodman Point Ramp than Leuwin as well from hills.
