Cramped Dinghy
Submitted by Swan River Fisher on Sun, 2011-09-18 18:49
Hey guys,
I've got a 13ft forward control dinghy, and when i fish with another person, it gets very cramped. I've put in an artificial floor which is about 20-30cm above the aliminimum floor, but not sure how to capitalise on this space.
Any ideas like compartments under the floor, in the big horizontal seats etc etc.
Cheers Ben

Look at my forum topic
Look at my forum topic "Selling My Tinnie", there is a photo on there of the built in fish box/esky on there. It has two copartments, put the fish in one and bait or food aand drinks in the other.
See if that give you an idea.

Put like a marlin deck on the back that you could put your icebox in/on and strap it in. or have one of both sides of the motor and put food or bait in the other like said above.
Cutting holes and making lids or doors in the seats to use as storage? or a bigger hole leaving enough for support and have a bench cushion as a lid like a toybox. you can build a tray type thing that sits at the top of the bow on the inside instead of having stuff on the floor. gives room for your gear to go there. or vice versa.
Cant you get those bladder fuel tanks you can put under your floor? Might have to check that one out coz i swear you can but im not positive.
Tow the deckie around on a biscuit or Throw out all running gear and get oars? lol

Cheers guys, Ill check your topic, i Think i've seen it before, with a 15hp merc 4stroke right?
i've got 2 kayaks so looks like deckies going in one, and eskie, tackle box and rods in the other lol. I've seen like 150x150 box lids that maybe i can drill into the bench seats.
Thanks

Take care cutting into dinghy seats
The seats (thwarts) in dinghies are usually a structural component of the boat. They act in the same way as stringers or frames in larger boats. So I would be very cautious about cutting holes in them. (I wouldn't do it to any dinghy of mine.) They are also often filled with foam for bouyancy - again, I wouldn't be reducing that.

Yea, researching that might be the key. I'm not too sure about it, but was just a suggestion. There might even laws that prevent that for safety but I'm unsure.
