Cray fish behind Garden Island
Hi All,
First time poster
just seeing how people are going with catching crayfish behind garden island, I haven't had a huge amount of luck as of late, dropped my pots on the five fathom bank the other day and when I pulled them this morning I only had one cray, can't complain to much as it was my first cray for the season, it's making me wonder whether I have missed the boat already and the crays have moved past the FFB already. Has anyone else been catching them in close towards garden island or are they on the move and past the FFB?
Not asking for spots or anything more info regarding there movements and some advice as I'm keen to get on some good numbers and have a bit of success for change, it's safe to say I'm not the best cray fisherman out there.
Any info is much appreciated.
cheers

Have been diving for them in
Have been diving for them in 26-28m of water, pretty much from the start of the season, with good success.
Had one dive at that depth Sunday and numbers seem to have dropped off. So did the second dive in 20-24m came a cross large number but most looked on the small side.

Cool, thanks for info I noticed the pro's are just on the other side of the bank today, whether they have made it to them already or they are anticipating them soon I'll just have to keep spot checking until I find them.

the thing with whites is they
the thing with whites is they will walk to the outside edge and bunnch up before marching. your best chance of catching good number and holing crays for a long period is to find ledges and reef that faces west. this can be easily done with a good sounder. the key part after this is to find the sand, just like robertmc said 19-22m (whiting patch). When the crays walk the obviously pass all sorts of terrains but when in the sand they are most vunverable hence why they will bunch up around the pot. if you get your pot in pure sand and set it back in the same location every day the crays will hold around it because 1 there is food but mainly because it is something to hide in and stay close to.

Cool thanks for the info
Cool thanks for the info guys, I'm going to pull mine tomorrow and see what is going on, I currently have them sitting on sand patches between big chucks of reef behind the five fathom, got 1 cray today however my pots would have been fizzing so hopefully tomorrow brings some joy if not it's time to go on the hunt.

I have heard different
I have heard different things about the full moon, one being they hide a don't move the other being the full moon kick starts there run out deep, who knows I'm just going to see how the pots go this week and let that be the judge.

Got more crays today which was good, going to stay out on the bank as the pro's where moving into the garden island side of the bank today, makes me think a big run is going to happen over the next few days, decided on a east west string setup today so hopefully we will see where there at tomorrow.
